For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. For most animals living on the streets, life is unconditionally difficult. Not only is procuring food and water a difficulty but also exposure to the fluctuating weather and the whims of human interaction make life doubly hard for them. Too often, they are seen to be wounded, struggling to survive as the heat, cold and cruelty leave a lasting impact on their bodies and souls.  
 With the thought of peace for all, Samarpan Foundation with the Bangalore Cat Squad work towards the care and rehabilitation of these gentle beings. Food is provided on a regular basis in localities of Bangaluru and Delhi for dogs, cats and cows. Second, medical care is also provided in case of injuries, from the point of rescue till reintegration. Our staff proactively identify cases that need attention, too often the creatures are in desperate situations, without which they would likely suffer for the duration of their lives or pass away. Focus has therefore been put to provide the following services: 1.     Provision of meals on a regular basis. 2.     Medical treatment of ill or injured animals3.     Animal birth control and vaccinations for stray dogs and cats4.     Boarding and after-care till recuperation 5.     Rehabilitation back into the community and adoption drives for cats and dogs.

The Kishangarh village in Delhi is an urban slum, inhabited by migrant workers: rag pickers, sweepers, construction workers, etc. who never got the opportunity to go to school. These people live in poverty and find it difficult to provide their families with even 3 meals a day. Education is a luxury for them. A majority of these children will be first-generation learners who will be the ones to break their families out of the vicious cycle of poverty. 
 Samarpan Foundation has been running a primary education centre called Samarpan School, since 2007. Located in Kishangarh Village, a rag pickers colony in Vasant Kunj, the aim was, and continues to be, to bring children off the streets and into the classroom. In the beginning, some parents did not see the point of sending their children to school when they could be earning instead. The meals provided at school served as an incentive for them as it was two meals less to worry about. Some children had even been pushed out of mainstream schools owing to ill-treatment meted out to them by teachers and peers. In 2011, we rented 2 rooms to start teaching how to crochet to their mothers. This helped us bring in children to school who had to otherwise to stay home to care for their siblings.Today, we run a school in two batches, both morning and evening, with more than 700 students.The students at the school are provided an education, healthy meals, uniforms, books, stationery, and a lot more. Our focus is on providing quality education - that makes them ready for mainstream schools as well as has them learn life-skills.The school serves as a bridge school and a tuition centre for late starters, covering nursery and kindergarten classes (children aged 3 to 5 years) as well as Primary Education: Class 1 to 5 (children aged 6 to 10 years). It prepares children for government schools and uses a syllabus that is in line with the CBSE syllabus. The school is NOT affiliated with any exam board (like CBSE/CSE etc).A situation is deliberately created to redirect the child's energy away from roaming the streets to a system of coming together, through counselling, fun pastimes, and awareness programs Late starters are given personalized attention to catch up to their age-appropriate classes before joining the mainstream. Other vocational classes, sports training and value education programs are conducted to ensure well-rounded growth for the child.We also provide meals that are a balanced diet consisting of pulses, cereals, vegetables and fruits. 
 We aim to educate our children to expand their horizons and dream of leading a life of dignity - more than their parents have ever been able to. Our hope is for our students to have opportunities that allow them to provide for themselves as well as their families.

We work to provide global support and assistance of any kind where there is humanitarian, environmental and animal welfare need, with Delhi operating as the nexus. India has one of the highest percentages of urban slum dwellings. The principle reason for this, is the migration of people from the rural areas of the country in search of better economic prospects. The high cost of living in an urban environment puts an incredible strain on the slum dwellers. Consequently, education, proper nutrition, healthcare and hygiene take a 'back seat 'in the daily fight for survival.  
 The aim of the schools and the tuition centres has been to act as a bridging course to eventually make the children competent to attend mainstream govt. schools. Samarpan Foundation has established 5 women empowerment centres at various locations across Delhi. The aim of these centres is to provide women with the skills and training to be able to become financially independent. Certified courses are provided to the women in stitching in regular batches. Malnutrition is one of the biggest issues afflicting people in India, with 30 per cent children in the country severely underweight. To counteract the same, we have instituted a nutritional programme within the communities. Secondary support in the form of nutrition and healthcare is also provided to shelters under the jurisdiction of the Government of India. Regular medical clinics are also conducted by the Foundation in the schools. These free clinics are open to the entire community.  
 Samarpan has established schools and tuition centres at 8 locations in Delhi-NCR, 2 locations in Bangalore, 1 in Chandigarh and 1 at Goa with more than 1500 children being supported. The Samarpan schools become an interactive tool not just for basic education but also serve as a platform for intervention that goes beyond education, for example, addressing problems like drug abuse and domestic violence in the communities at large. The impact of our nutritional programme was evident when medical tests showed a marked decline in malnutrition.  Once the training period is completed for the empowerment programs, they are capable of being incorporated in commercial establishments.
