For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Staying at home has definitely helped in controlling the pandemic but has also created major disruptions in the lives of a large number of Daily Wage and Unorganized Sector workers in India. Due to the countrywide lock down, livelihood opportunities of millions of migrant construction workers, auto and cab drivers, street vendors have come to a halt. 
 To address these issues and support the Migrant Workers, Sambhav Foundation (An initiative of LabourNet) has partnered with some of the leading Corporates in the country and initiated several Welfare Programs. As the first step of support, Sambhav Foundation will be distributing essential food grain such as Rice Wheat, vegetables, and basic spices, Health kits containing alcohol-based sanitizers and soaps for the workers impacted due to lock down.

Several technician partners who have faced the brunt of the lock-down; their families are suffering as their little savings are reaching exhaustion point.With uncertainty on the period and extension of lock-down, we as responsible citizens aim to take care of the mechanic community and their family’s essential needs (food and healthcare).

India has more than 3 crore people living with intellectual challenges. And we, as a society, have not done enough to create a world where they feel included and accepted.  The Sadhya Project is a concept. One that wishes to create space for the intellectually challenged in society. Sadhya is built on the strong belief that every individual, even with their own challenges, deserves to have their own space in society — one where they can learn, grow, earn, and live a dignified fulfilling life. 
 At Sadhya, we don’t just want to educate, we want to provide holistic development that equips each student beyond subsistence. That’s how they can live in this world as equals and lead sustainable lives.  To realise our vision, we cover multiple dimensions of development at the Sadhya centre: LifeSkillsA future where they are independent is a future with self-respect. We want to bring independence by teaching them how to perform daily-life activities like using the washroom, having meals, making their beds, etc. on their own. Academic Skills Through Teaching AidsLearning is different for each individual. Some learn through seeing, hearing, and touching, while others learn by doing. Experiential learning simplifies our students' learning through activities, games, puzzles, and unique teaching aids. Vocational Skills Both learning and earning are for these students. We want to help them build a better today so that they can build a better tomorrow for themselves. Diya painting is one of the several activities at the Sadhya centre that ensures that they earn, not just a livelihood, but also a decent life ahead. Nutrition We are dedicated to helping them maintain a healthy lifestyle. Every student at Sadhya follows a balanced and nutritious diet. Our team provides healthy meals, thrice a day, which cover the prescribed levels of nutrition for their physical well-being. 
 Nearly a hundred children and adults are under our care every year.

Project Sadhya - A step towards an inclusive and accepting future for intellectually challenged.

With the onset of the second wave of Covid-19, the healthcare infrastructure in India is facing an acute crisis. Hospitals and COVID-care centers struggle under a tremendous flood of patients, even as they grapple with a severe shortage of doctors, nurses, medical and non-medical staff. The death toll from shortfall in oxygen supply and lack of ventilators and other critical care equipment is mounting. Although 80% of affected do not require hospitalization, the essential supplies and medical support needed to provide care and counselling at home are falling short. As we head towards the peak of this wave, we need all the help we can get to reduce the loss of life, and get the spread of the pandemic under control. 
 The action we take today will decide the intensity of the third wave.Sambhav Foundation (an initiative of LabourNet) has a three-pronged approach to reducing the immediate damage from the second wave, and bringing lasting improvements in our readiness for pandemic situations.Providing COVID patients with the care they need -<ol><li>Home Care - Helping mild to moderate patients isolate themselves at home by providing information, timely assistance, medicines and daily doctor consultations.</li><li>COVID-care centers - Setting up transitory facilities of upto 100 beds with qualified staff and equipment for those who cannot be isolated at home.</li></ol>Reducing the burden on hospitals and front-line medical workers -<ol><li>Hospital Helpdesks - Placing Medical Social Workers at 24/7 desks at hospitals to support patients and their families with testing, admission, and counselling.</li><li>COVID Helplines - Trained operators provide patients with the information on bed availability and COVID protocol</li><li>Healthcare staffing - Ensure hospitals and COVID-care centers are fully staffed with doctors, nurses, phlebotomists, X-ray technicians, GDAs etc.</li><li>Critical Care Equipment - Helping hospitals achieve oxygen independence through oxygen concentrators and plants, and helping them access and utilise equipment like BiPAP machines.</li></ol>Arresting the spread of COVID -<ol><li>COVID Relief - Providing food kits, masks and PPE kits to vulnerable communities and frontline workers</li><li>Vaccination drives - Awareness programs, vaccination for vulnerable communities and non-medical frontline workers, and post vaccination counselling</li></ol> 
 To date, 50 Sambhav Helpdesks have been set-up at hospitals and have facilitated treatment for over 9,500 patients.We’ve also facilitated 10,000+ COVID tests, and cared for 4000+ patients under home isolation.Our first COVID-care center is set-up and running successfully, and we’ve helped hospitals and care centers become oxygen self-sufficient by supplying over 200 oxygen concentrators.But, our work has only just begun. COVID-19 is advancing relentlessly, this is the time to step up our efforts.
