“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. While Lalitha has also helped many women escape the clutches of being forced into sex work, the SPID is focused on rescuing children and giving them a better life.Sadly, many more children need to be rescued and need a loving home. In the dark and dingy alleys of red light areas, injustice, pain and suffering run rampant. And the worst affected are the children who grow up in red-light areas and are subjected to constant abuse and violence. “The sight of a 12-year-old girl being gang-raped by a group of men near a house l haunts me to this date. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. He has further supported over 20,000 children with a better life.Sadly, 250 of the children rescued from abuse and exploitation are HIV positive. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. Gradually more and more mothers started coming to me and asked me to take their children away, even if it was just for a couple of hours,” he further adds.The work that Girish started in his youth gradually grew to become a movement, with many more joining his cause. His NGO Snehalaya to date has transformed the lives of millions. Girish’s work is crucial for the survival and safety of vulnerable children of sex workers. Differently Abled

Sant Ishwar Foundation is managed by Army veterans. It has created 'Ghar' in a specially designed seven-storey building to house orphan/marginalised girls, paralysed women and the elderly all under one roof and empowers them through quality education/skilling, mainstreaming them and making them productive members of society while enhancing quality of life of the elderly. Girls are provided quality education and all other facilities that are needed to make them realise their full potential and to become capable to participate and compete in all activities. Paralysed women who are wheelchair-mobile will be provided skill training, healthy nutrition, healthcare and numerous facilities. Our objective is to make them confident, independent and productive members of society and to empower and mainstream them.Ghar is the creation of a joint family with three generations - daughters, mothers and grandparents and their bonding as we have in our own families.  We help create meaningful, purposeful and fulfilling lives for our orphan/marginalised girls for them to learn how to use that to impact and make a difference in the lives of others in times to come.The trust also supports the education of marginalised non-resident children and conducts awareness campaigns and workshops on child protection and on aspects of humanity.

We provide a safe home for young girls with nowhere else to go. Our mission is to provide a loving home for them and give them the skills necessary to lead a life of dignity and comfort. We bear all educational, nutritional, and residential costs&nbsp;solely by us, so we never turn away a little girl who needs help. Take a look at some of the incredible achievements our beneficiaries have made in FY 24-25. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Most of our girls study in renowned English medium schools (Army Public School, St Joseph's Convent School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Chetan Dattaji Gaikwad School)&nbsp;2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Every one of our kids studies hard and attends school regularly.&nbsp;3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The girls have achieved 100% computer literacy.&nbsp;&nbsp;4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Many girls have attained excellence in yoga and have passed various exams in yoga.5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Confident and disciplined girls who participate and compete in all activities. Several of them have won medals/trophies.&nbsp;Many girls have danced before large audiences several times.6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Significantly improved health, including dental health and hygiene. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Despite all the amazing achievements made by the girls, we are most proud of their selflessness and character.&nbsp;Our girls want to give back to the nation and aspire to join the Indian army, become IAS/IPS officers, doctors, and the like. Orphans, semi-orphans and vulnerable children are subject to systematic deprivation covering a wide spectrum of socio-economic parameters like lack of shelter, and lack of access to health services and educational opportunities. These vulnerable children are also easy prey to all kinds of exploitation and abuse. Such children are often among the high-risk, insecure and deprived groups who are denied not only their rights as children but also their childhood. Without guidance, education and security, they head for an obscure future. They need support to steer them back to the mainstream of social life through proper education opportunities, care and rehabilitation. Children in need of care and protection face immense challenges - lack of belongingness, psychological issues, malnutrition, lack of education and access to healthcare, insecurity and a bleak future. Many of them are homeless and take to begging and crime. They are in a continuous struggle to fulfil their basic needs like shelter, food, clothing, drinking water, health care and protection.There is thus a need to augment efforts in taking care of orphans/marginalised children and providing them with a sense of belongingness, security, education, access to healthcare, care and support for their overall development. 
 We have created Ghar in a seven-storey building that houses homes for orphan/marginalised girls and the elderly all under one roof.We take care of the boarding, nutritional, education, health and personal needs of orphan/marginalised girls. They are provided with quality education in English medium schools and all other facilities that are needed to make them realise their full potential be it in academics, sports, arts and culture and to become capable to participate and compete in all activities. This will help them in pursuing their dreams, to grow into conscientious adults and to lead a life of dignity and respect in society. Ghar also houses paralysed women and the elderly. Orphans/marginalised get to grow up in the environment of a family with the attendant sense of belongingness, security, good education, a good future and love and affection.Paralysed women from the lower strata of society will be provided with skill training and mainstreamed into society. 
 Ghar is unique in her vision, concept and management. Our vision is to hold the hands of orphan/marginalised children from the lowest strata of society and help them climb the tallest mountains - to become successful people in order that they in turn will hold the hands of others and make an impact and a difference in the lives of others in times to come, to provide a family to paralysed women and empower and mainstream them and provide the elderly a healthy, content and happy life.Unique in concept since Ghar is the creation of a joint family of daughters, mothers and grandparents all residing under one roof as one big family with the attendant sense of belongingness, security and feelings.Unique in management since Ghar has been created by an Army veteran and is managed by a team of Army veterans.1.
