But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. Dattu Sopan Bhandare, 80, lives alone in Mudegaon village of the Beed district in Maharashtra. Hit by drought, his children have moved to urban areas and after his wife died a few years back, he has to take care of himself. Aged people who are above 60 years are the most neglected people in villages. Most of them are poor and belong to below poverty line families. They are more prone to diseases and require special attention. Most of them are suffering from chronic diseases and they cannot afford treatment, buy medicines and nutritious food. 
 STEPS NGO has enabled aged people to access health and other entitlements. The issues targeted in the program are already being addressed but not in a very organized and uniform manner. STEPS NGO will be working with aged communities on the in-focus activities. Health care: Organising health camps, distributing medicines and nutritious food supplements to poor destitute elders.Responsive Community Based Age Care: Through this activity, the motivating community to take care of aged people. The community support mechanism will ensure sustainable and continuous support to the destitute aged people. In the event of an emergency, immediate relief support would be provided to the aged elderly people. 
 Maintaining good health is a key issue for aged people. By providing appropriate treatment, medication, and overall health care services, aged people can remain active. This will not only boost their sense of self-respect and dignity but also reduce their dependency and increase their productive life. Health care, Treatment and Disease Awareness for Elderly People

Basic health needs are not available to poor slum people in Srikalahasti town. Incidence of diseases like Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), Malaria is high. Many people do not have health awareness. There are about 100 People suffering with Filariasis disease and they will suffer from its effects over their entire lifetime. This disease develops into chronic conditions, leads to body deformities, causes social stigma and increased medical expenses. 
 STEPS will provide health care, awareness, drugs and bed nets to Filariasis patients. Organize free health camps &amp; house visits. With this we can provide health services to poor Filariasis patients and able to reduce spreading of Filariasis disease. STEPS will organize health awareness camps in slums Filariasis patients and other community. 
 The project will provide health care and awareness for 50 Filariasis patients. As a result of this program, there will be better care of Filariasis patients. The Filariasis patients can take care of themselves and stop developing other complication. This will lead to awareness among other community people about diseases. By partnering with communities, teaching them to make healthy choices through health education empowers people to take care of themselves and their families from Filariasis disease.
