According to an ILO report, the extent of bonded child labour estimates from various social activist groups range up to 350,000 in 2001. Kasuva Village, where the Sevalaya campus is located, was plagued by child labour, 30 years ago. Children were not given education, especially the girl child in villages surrounding Sevalaya.Children worked in brick kilns as bonded labourers. The importance of education was not known to villagers. Also; for students who went to school, the quality of education offered was not encouraging them to continue schooling. Hence; the dropout rates in schools went 25%. 
 Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School at Kasuva Village, provides high quality education, completely free of cost for the past 30 years, to more than 2000 poor and destitute children in the neighbourhood. The school provides education from Pre-KG (Balwadi) to 12th standard in 40 neighboring villages.In addition; text books, note books, uniforms for the entire school and transport facility for primary children are provided for free. The school provides value-based education with special emphasis on co-curricular and life skill activities to enable children to become self-reliant. 
 Eradicated child labour in 40 villages around Sevalaya. Approximately, 50% of our students are girl child. The drop out ratio is just 1.5%. More than 1000 students have completed their education and are employed.Sevalaya through free education has helped so many families to come out of the vicious circle of poverty and has made it possible for them to be self-reliant.To mention a few, 72 of our students have completed a bachelor degree in engineering, 370 have completed a bachelor degree courses in science/commerce/arts and 37 have completed bachelor degree in agriculture. It is a matter of pride that none of our alumni are unemployed.

While schools and colleges declared holidays because of the pandemic, Sevalaya orphanage is still taking care of nearly 100 children and living in our homes. They are orphans and have no place to go. Due to lockdown, as well as, since several individuals have lost their own livelihood, we are facing steep drop in donations, we need to take care of the basic amenities like food, education, self-hygiene etc. for them.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Old Age Home provides shelter to nearly 100 destitute and poor senior citizens at Kasuva Campus and also Gandhi Ashram Krishnan Memorial Senior Citizens’ Home is our second facility in Thanjavur districtat Thanjavur with a difference. Many senior citizens are rendered homeless because of their inability to fend for themselves, due to lack of earnings or are abused by their kith and kin and left to fend for themselves. With the aging population set to increase over the next decade, by some estimates by more than 20 million, it is essential to take care of their emotional, spiritual and physical needs, as they get into the twilight of their years. 
 1.     To look after the elderly people with utmost care and empathy in a pleasant atmosphere to lead a happy and peaceful life till their last journey;         2.     To ensure that the old age residents of Sevalaya, live with respect, dignity in a secure, compassionate, congenial environment and surroundings;3.     To provide companionship, emotional support to overcome social isolation;4.     To ensure adequate nourishment, clothes and other basic necessities for Sevalaya’s destitute old age home residents;5.     To ensure instant and quality healthcare for the old age residents, who are destitute, so that they can get awareness on health and hygienic issues

The government has stepped up rescue and relief preparations across districts in Tamilnadu and Puducherry. 
 While Chennai and its neighboring districts including Puducherry are struggling to survive the flood, Sevalaya has stepped in to provide relief in rain-ravaged areas in Tamilnadu and Puducherry. We plan to distribute dry ration kits, packed meals and essential kit supplies to the affected population in urban slums, rural villages, the homeless and people in temporary shelter homes. Sevalaya’s, Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School, runs classes from Montessori to Senior Secondary in Kasuva, Tirunindravur, Thiruvallur district. The school has a strength of 2100 students. The school is Government recognized (Unaided). 6600+ children have received an education. 
 The children are first-generation learners and come from 40 neighboring villages. Sevalaya provides completely free high-quality education to the children. The children are provided free notebooks, two sets of uniforms, and stationery for the students, each year from the support of well-wishers.

This year has been hard for everyone and recently, it got even harder for the people in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and surrounding areas. Cyclone Nivar was predicted to be just a storm but quickly evolved into a major cyclonic storm that hit the coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh on the evening of 26th November.An emergency alert was quickly declared and people were asked to stay indoors and stay safe. Puducherry saw the highest rainfall with 30 cms of rain in 24 hours. Other places like Chidambaram, Cuddalore, and the suburbs of Chennai witnessed heavy rainfall as well. In some places, winds reached speeds of 80-95 km/hr. The cyclonic storm is still growing and moving inwards, leaving destruction in its wake. 
 Our team on the ground, reached out to support nearly 50 affected families with dry ration kits. There is a need to support 250+ families.
