Community & Rural Development

The people in the target areas trek long distances to collect water from the streams which are contaminated. The women, girl child and children spend much time in getting pots of water for their drinking and usage purposes. Traditionally, poor rural women have worked alongside their husbands in fields, brought up children and managed the house, kept accounts, collected water, fuel wood, and fodder, looked after the animals, and looked after their husbands, children and in-laws. They are poorly educated (mostly illiterate), either due to the prevailing custom of not educating girl children or a lack of means while growing up, and they have little time or opportunity once they are married off. The people especially, the children are affected with water-borne diseases.The provision of safe drinking water is a key development issue in the target areas, where rural households have no access to clean and safe water and communicable diseases are water-related. Rural households in the rural districts suffer frequent outbreaks of jaundice, diarrhea, and gastroenteritis. Some of the challenges in providing clean water in rural areas include geographic remoteness, poor maintenance of existing systems, and a paucity of public funds. Social factors also contribute to poor service levels in rural areas, notably the caste system and high rates of illiteracy. Providing safe drinking water to poor families in the rural areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are critical for the economic development of the region as well as for improving health and living conditions. 
 The general situation is dismal. The target rural households had no access to sanitation facilities and no latrine facilities. The rural households, thus, use ‘the bush’.Our Project beneficiaries belong to Backward Class, Scheduled Caste and Tribal communities who are poor and marginalized. The beneficiaries are laborers in the agricultural fields and some of them go to nearby town in search of their livelihood. While taking our surveys in the remote villages the people in the community came forward and explained about the need to combat the scarcity of Water. The community came forward for their participation in owning the bore well and its maintenance.Community meetings are arranged with village people. This is to mobilize interest and enthusiasm as well as raise awareness about the project. The location of the project is decided by the Local people along with Sarpanch (Village Head). The Children are also beneficiaries in this Project.TARGET COMMUNITIES?100 Communities in the rural &amp; urban slum areas and Tribal hill areas of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States in India. 
 HOW MANY BENEFICIARIES?• More than 75,000 approx. people will be benefited through drinking water (Reference to the Third Party Verifications)• 100 communities (75000 approx. people ) will be benefited through sanitation and Hygiene.MAINTENANCE AND SUSTAINABILITY?The project has long term benefit that the maintenance and repair of the Water system is managed by the community itself with the help of ‘Committee on Safe Water and Sanitation’ (COSWAS). The Project is aligned with sanitation and hygiene. The community people will get awareness on sanitation. The community came forward for their participation in owning the bore well and its maintenance. The training will be given to COSWAS members of each community in capacity building and awareness on Water and Sanitation to handle the water infrastructure in proper way.MONITORING &amp; REPORTING ?The Project is monitored by the Project staff in all its phases. Supervision and collection of data is done by field staff. The Progress reporting is done in the form of Management Information System (MIS). The completion report is prepared at the end of the Project and send to the Donor agency and also the Government of India. The children are attending the local school regularly and are provided with Text Books, Note Books, School Bags, Pens and Pencils and School fee is paid for their admission and study in the school. The children are being brought up under discipline. This COVID19 Relief project will provide immediate &amp; direct support to people who are at risk for Coronavirus by providing groceries, food packets, Soap, Mask, Sanitization items and Hygiene Kits to 5,000 daily wage workers, homeless people, and Street &amp; Slum families who have lost their jobs and livelihood. We also wish to spread awareness about precautions and prevention of the virus through awareness drives and counseling. 
 Challenge:Corona Virus has had a devastating effect all over the world. Thousands of people are dying as a result and the number of infected people continues to rise. Poor and marginalized daily wage workers, homeless people, Street &amp; Slum families and nomadic people are unable to access hygiene kits, food &amp; basic necessities to guard themselves against the virus due to financial constraints.Solution:Dry grains, Hygiene kits, Food and Grocery Packets, Masks &amp; Basic supplies are being supplied to these 5,000 marginalized and nomadic families whose livelihood has been affected by the pandemic. Creating awareness about the virus and providing them with proper sanitization kits &amp; food is an urgent need. 
 Long-Term Impact:Destitute people will be saved from this epidemic situation and will have proper sanitization kits which will help stop the spread of coronavirus. Through rehabilitation and timely support these marginalized people can re-again their trust in humanity in these dark times.

Support daily wage workers who have lost their livelihood and are unable to feed their families due to the COVID-19 pandemic, by providing food grains

Many impoverished families living in rural and urban slum regions of India struggle greatly to feed, clothe and educate their children. Unfortunate children who suffer the death, imprisonment or abandonment of one or both parents have little to no assistance from their government and 95% of the time end up in 1 of 3 tragic situations: 1) Forced Child Labor 2) Begging on the streets 3) Sold or Forced into the Sex Trade. Lifestyle Publications is asking it's team and supporters to share in the passion of this cause to give resources in order to provide a home, caretakers and education for 100 of these precious children until the age of 18. 100% of the money for this project is directed toward the following: Materials and All Labor Home construction, Fresh Water Well, School supplies, Shoes Clothing, Mosquito Nets, Playground Equipment. Usually, the Orphanage will have Dormitories, dining room, study, living area, bathrooms, kitchen, outside play space. We presently work with orphan and destitute children; the number that continues to grow each day! 
 Every child receives everything they need. By long run 100 Orphan and poor Children get education in secured and comfortable stay in the permanent shelter in good environment. The children will be attend the School regularly and got better education and acquired knowledge. Children are promoted into new classes. They will get an opportunity to live on their own with dignity. They are keeping in good health and education, have access for School uniform and needs, so that they are having equal opportunity with other children. We provide education through 18 years of age and position each child with a chance to succeed at achieving their dreams. These Children have good facilities for their better living.  Our children no longer have to eat scraps off the street. Instead, they get to enjoy three nutritious meals per day in their new home.

Since then SAF provided about 143 wells (new and replace) in drought hit districts of Prakasam, Kurnool, and Ranga Reddy districts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, India.As reported in India millions of deaths each year due to water borne diseases and it accounts for one third of the global deaths due to disease spread by contaminated food and water. Most of the victims are children under five years of age, and diarrhea, followed by hepatitis account for water borne diseases in the country. The reasons for such a high toll due to water borne diseases are lack of safe drinking water, and food hygiene conditions etc.,Water borne diseases become more pronounced during summer due to scarcity of safe drinking water. People, especially children suffer due to lack of potable water and the women trek long distances to fetch a pot of water. Even in some areas a pot of drinking water is sold for Rs.15/- to Rs.25/-.The people particularly women in these areas are dependent on bore-wells and where bore-wells are not available; women have to trek minimum two kilometers for just a pitcher of water.The summer season is very hot in these districts with temperature reaching 40-46 degrees centigrade. Fire accidents are very common during hot summer months of April and May. People suffer due to lack of safe drinking water.The provision of Drinking water in drought areas fulfilled the prime requirement of the people in these areas. “Water most Sacred symbol of life”. The major beneficiaries from the programme are women and children. The programme has made available clean and safe water accessible in the neighborhood. The women have been saved a lot of time in fetching water trekking long distances. The impact was on development of community, family and individuals.ICDP PROGRAMME: Integrated Community Development program (ICDP) to serve the backward communities where the family is benefited rather than an individual child. In this new approach the children receive opportunity to pursue their education while the parents are provided with an opportunity to develop new skills and participate in group activities and also inculcate habit of savings to develop them to reach sustainability. With a small beginning of 50 children in this program it is also expanded further and the present strength in this program is 570 children. This is a family focus program. Through this program over 600 families are being benefited. These families are on the path of development to reach sustainability. The activity components of ICDP are Child Education Opportunities, Group Formations and development, Literacy and awareness, Health awareness, Vocational skills training, Savings groups and Income generating activities.•    We provide education for identified children.•    We develop community groups as basis for capacity building.•    We undertake basic literacy activity, health awareness and skills training to Parents of identified children and others in the community.•    We develop savings based credit system to establish Income Generating Activities.  •    We provide relevant training for Field Staff for their development.ICDP In a nutshell……•    570 identified children in the communities provided with educational opportunities viz., Books, School supplies, Uniform, coaching classes for those who are poor in studies.•    Field staff to implement the activities.•    Target area consists of about 8 villages.
