And the worst affected are the children who grow up in red-light areas and are subjected to constant abuse and violence. “The sight of a 12-year-old girl being gang-raped by a group of men near a house l haunts me to this date. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. “I used to be sexually abused repeatedly, and when I screamed in pain, they hit and threatened me with more violence,” says Priya (name changed), a rescued child sex worker. Priya was abducted by traffickers and sold into a red-light area house before she was rescued by Guria led by Manju. For over two decades, Manju has been rescuing young girls forced into prostitution across the country. She has been shaken to the core seeing some of the most horrifying crimes that young girls have to undergo. “You can’t imagine the state of girls forced into sex work. The girls are given electric shocks and burnt with cigarette butts just to get kicks out of it. And if they get pregnant, the "owners" kick them repeatedly in the womb so that the child inside dies…If you want to see hell, it is here on this planet where young girls are sexually abused,” says Manju.Manju needs your help to rescue more young girls from forced prostitution and reunite them with their families. Donate now.Guria’s work over the yearsBased out of Varanasi, inarguably the holiest place in India, Manju and her organisation Guria, fights the sexual exploitation of girls, especially minors, by taking on the traffickers head-on, and rescuing and rehabilitating them.Started in 1993, Guria has rescued over 5500 persons from slavery, sex trafficking, and child prostitution so far. It has also been instrumental in shutting down hundreds of places that housed trafficked girls and putting scores of traffickers out of business and in jail.For instance, in 2005, a Guria-led rescue operation in Varanasi's red-light area led to the freeing of 49 women and girls, including minors. Many of them were kept against their will. Some of the traffickers were also arrested and tried. Since then, Guria has rescued thousands of young girls.Manju and her husband, Ajeet Singh began rescuing girls from Varanasi’s red-light areas and then working to stop the sex-trafficking of young girls within Uttar Pradesh and outside. The organisation’s aim is to eliminate the sex trafficking of women, especially minor girls, end second-generation prostitution and child prostitution, and rehabilitate women and girls who are rescued from the trade. Manju has faced violent backlash from the traffickers and other vested interests, but it has not deterred her from carrying on rescuing young girls from trafficking. Rescue and rehabilitationBesides rescuing girls trafficked for sex, mostly from low-income families, from across the country, Guria fights on their behalf in courts and also provides education, food, vocational training, and other facilities until they are united with their families. But because of a lack of funds, Guria is finding it difficult to rescue more girls and also take care of them once they are away from the clutches of the traffickers. Take the case of Sameena (name changed), who was abducted from Uttar Pradesh all the way to Telangana. Guria took it upon itself to rescue the girl with the help of its own work and also the authorities. After months of rehabilitation, Sameena went back to her family and even completed her education. Our aim is to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for the less fortunate children of farmers and poor families. Snehwan is a movement for those children who are deprived of learning due to adverse situations and surroundings. We believe education is a gift of life; it is the only way to improve the life of underprivileged children, forever. Snehwan provides education, living accommodation and job training for children of farmers who have committed suicide, laborer's in the farm and economically underprivileged farmers. Journey started in 2015 with 18 children is now taking care of 180 children of the age group 10 to 22 year. Along with quality education and schooling, we teach them skill based education, also we guide and prepare these children for competitive exams. It is difficult to imagine the plight of young children whose parents perform the unthinkable. A parent is supposed to be a caretaker, disciplinarian, and provider for their child; to the maximum of their abilities and for as long as they are able. But what happens when a child loses their parent, that too in the worst way imaginable? 8-year old Saisha (name changed) knows the answer to that question all too well. Not only was she forced to live through the suicide of her father, but she also had to stop going to school to pick up work as a laborer on a farm just to support her family and pay off her father's debts. In 2023, Saisha was rescued and adopted by Snehwan, who provided her with a loving home. She flourishes in academics, yoga, computer science, and music, and dreams of one day being a successful IT professional. Saisha is a remarkable student who now pursues the second standard. Snehwan has gifted her the opportunity to improve her station in life and create a better future for herself. Just like Saisha, Snehwan has rescued lots of children who would have otherwise suffered severe hardship. It is only through our efforts and our generous donors' backing that we can rescue these children and provide a better life for them. We need to funds to build a new hostel capable of fulfilling the needs of over 100 children and give them the space and resources to mature. The project offers comprehensive support from the age of 6 to 18+, encompassing education, health, medical care, and livelihood assistance. Snehwan distinguishes itself through sustainable practices, utilizing solar-powered facilities, implementing rainwater harvesting, and converting cow dung into gas. Furthermore, the administration, finance, and operations are efficiently managed by senior beneficiaries. The project boasts a range of facilities, including a library, science lab, and livelihood skills training center, with dedicated teachers providing extra instruction to the children after regular school hours. During our visit, 1st-year BCA students expressed their satisfaction, characterizing Snehwan as a "family away from family." Snehwan is currently in the process of constructing a new hostel for boys and an upcoming one for girls. What about the families and children the farmers leave behind? They are left to struggle in the darkness, having no hope of a good life or a future! Don’t these kids deserve love, care, and safety? Don’t they have the right to decent education and a normal life?</li><li>Climate change is real, and its effects across the globe are evident. While scientists are looking for ways to minimize the damage, severe drought in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions in Maharashtra, and has affected 90 lakh farmers after a drought was declared in the state in more than 29,000 villages.</li><li>While several public figures and activists have cranked up their philanthropic activities to prevent farmer suicides and create amenities to fix the problem on hand, there’s someone who’s been working silently looking for opportunities to brighten the future of the community of farmers.</li></ul>

Having seen the same poverty they have, we want them to learn more and most of all, become better human beings. We don’t want to create more Job seekers in society, we want to create Job Creator. We are working on to build the future of India, as we are working for farmer’s children.</li><li>We have started to teach them Agriculture based food processing business from the childhood. So that they can use their education to start their own start-up to support the small village farmers. We have children from 6 districts and 20 villages of Maharashtra in Snehwan. It will help to create the employment and to help the farmers in India.</li><li>In first phase we going to teach them Dairy farming, Preparing Tomato Sauce, Various Masala, Oil, Turmeric Powder, Papad Industry Etc. We need support to setup the machines and all. We have already started Gaushala to teach Organic farming, composting and milk product to children.  </li></ul>
