“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. While Lalitha has also helped many women escape the clutches of being forced into sex work, the SPID is focused on rescuing children and giving them a better life.Sadly, many more children need to be rescued and need a loving home. “I used to be sexually abused repeatedly, and when I screamed in pain, they hit and threatened me with more violence,” says Priya (name changed), a rescued child sex worker. Priya was abducted by traffickers and sold into a red-light area house before she was rescued by Guria led by Manju. For over two decades, Manju has been rescuing young girls forced into prostitution across the country. She has been shaken to the core seeing some of the most horrifying crimes that young girls have to undergo. “You can’t imagine the state of girls forced into sex work. The girls are given electric shocks and burnt with cigarette butts just to get kicks out of it. And if they get pregnant, the "owners" kick them repeatedly in the womb so that the child inside dies…If you want to see hell, it is here on this planet where young girls are sexually abused,” says Manju.Manju needs your help to rescue more young girls from forced prostitution and reunite them with their families. Donate now.Guria’s work over the yearsBased out of Varanasi, inarguably the holiest place in India, Manju and her organisation Guria, fights the sexual exploitation of girls, especially minors, by taking on the traffickers head-on, and rescuing and rehabilitating them.Started in 1993, Guria has rescued over 5500 persons from slavery, sex trafficking, and child prostitution so far. It has also been instrumental in shutting down hundreds of places that housed trafficked girls and putting scores of traffickers out of business and in jail.For instance, in 2005, a Guria-led rescue operation in Varanasi's red-light area led to the freeing of 49 women and girls, including minors. Many of them were kept against their will. Some of the traffickers were also arrested and tried. Since then, Guria has rescued thousands of young girls.Manju and her husband, Ajeet Singh began rescuing girls from Varanasi’s red-light areas and then working to stop the sex-trafficking of young girls within Uttar Pradesh and outside. The organisation’s aim is to eliminate the sex trafficking of women, especially minor girls, end second-generation prostitution and child prostitution, and rehabilitate women and girls who are rescued from the trade. Manju has faced violent backlash from the traffickers and other vested interests, but it has not deterred her from carrying on rescuing young girls from trafficking. Rescue and rehabilitationBesides rescuing girls trafficked for sex, mostly from low-income families, from across the country, Guria fights on their behalf in courts and also provides education, food, vocational training, and other facilities until they are united with their families. But because of a lack of funds, Guria is finding it difficult to rescue more girls and also take care of them once they are away from the clutches of the traffickers. Take the case of Sameena (name changed), who was abducted from Uttar Pradesh all the way to Telangana. Guria took it upon itself to rescue the girl with the help of its own work and also the authorities. After months of rehabilitation, Sameena went back to her family and even completed her education. A major part of India’s population lives in rural areas. Though our national economy is totally agro-based is a known fact, no longer the agriculture be a substitute to meet the needs of rural people. It is clear from the major flow of money, which is through urban areas. To improve this prevalent condition government has started several schemes. Despite the fact wherein large amounts of money allocated for the series of schemes designed to generate employment in rural areas, the scenario is not so conducive and encouraging, where millions of people remain jobless or are partially employed, which borne little fruits. Unemployment is the major cause of rural poverty and migration of rural people to urban areas.The proposed project aims towards holistic development of villages. The indigenous cows rearing in 30 women sangha members in one village and processing of cow products are the major activities for sustainable income and employment generation involving weaker sections of the society i.e. small marginal farmers, SC/ST, women, unemployed youth etc. The key resource here is Cow. It is tried to achieve partial independence in energy requirements using biogas generated from cow dung for cooking, lighting and electricity generation at village level. Along with rural energy need, milk and milk products are to be produced at village level and further these are to be consumed in the house hold and also sold in the local market for income generation and protection against malnutrition. The digested slurry from bio-gas plant will be used for organic farming and for cultivation of medicinal plants and herbs in the area. Cow urine will be used for preparation of bio-pesticides. The project provides an assured alternative energy supply at lower cost. Human resource development will also be an integral part of the proposed activities. Local people will be given training as per need for their skill development and processing of the material to fetch more income for them. The project establishes rural industrial estates for efficient utilisation of local available resources based on integrated cycle of cow. This will create number of employment opportunities in the area, thus rural people will earn and generate more income, thereby, reducing poverty level existing in the area. The proper management and potential utilisation of locally available resources without disturbing the environment will make the village self reliant in economy as envisaged by Mahatma Gandhi. 
 <ul><li> Selection of 30 women beneficiaries from one village women sangha;</li><li>Conducting 5 days training for 30 women on cow rearing, value added milk products, Panchagavya, Generation of bio-gas for cooking, lighting and electricity generation to achieve self sufficiency in energy demand, preparation of panchagavya, organic manures and pesticides from cow dung and urine, cultivation of medicinal plants, Efficient utilisation of animal power etc.</li><li>Providing seed money INR 20,000 to 30 deprived women to purchase 30 indigenous cows;</li><li>Formation of production and marketing unit consisting 30 women for production of value added milk production, organic fertiliser, Panchagavya, pesticide and marketing;</li><li>Guiding to receive bio gas plant with government subsidy from government department for bio gas plant;</li><li>Providing seeds and saplings of herbal to 30 deprived women</li></ul>

Economic Development of Poor Widows through Cow Production.

In a nation like ours, women are generally treated as second-class citizens. The project area is characterized with a typical rural setting with most of the men folk involved in agriculture or unemployment. The women and girls of the area are mostly involved in household chores, and do not have any say in family affairs. Deprived from higher education and entirely dependent on their male counterparts, they have to bear the brunt of the evils like dowry, domestic violence etc. Being a patriarchal society, women and girls are not allowed to step out of their houses which leads to lower educational status, low confidence to face the world. In view of the financial constraints that a family faces, this skill-building program strives to empower the women, and the community at large. It was observed, if some kind of skill is imparted to the women, it would give them more avenues to earn their living. The program will also help them to raise their voice against the ill treatment accorded to them within the family or outside. Hence, vocational training program (stitching and embroidery) will enable the rural women and girls to learn and enhance their skills, enhancing their confidence level by making themselves reliant. 
 Project AimTo empower the women and equip them with tools to become self-reliant through stitching and tailoring skill up gradation program.Project Target Group : Women and Girls from the villages of Bhuvangiri block.Project Objectives1. To promote employment oriented skills, upgradation training to the adolescent girls and ladies from the community2. To use these groups as a platform for generating awareness on social issues3. To encourage self-employment by acting as support agencies for providing necessary help4. To certify and to liaison with the trained institutes in order to strengthen training placements opportunities for the trained girls and ladies .Project MethodologyMobilization: Reach out to the potential beneficiaries through mobilization and outreach initiatives, encouraging women and girls to enhance their skills by enrolling for stitching, embroidery course.Training preferences: Three months training course of stitching for the beneficiaries as per their interest and feasibility. Exposure Trips: Skill enhancing exposure trips for the beneficiaries to improve their selling &amp; negotiation skills. Recognition: Post successful completion of the course, certificates will be disbursed to the beneficiaries 
 The project after its completion will have the following outputs: -Income generating sources will be achieved at local level. Over all, 90 beneficiaries would be trained and assisted in placements with the micro and relevant industry. -Self confidence and economic development -Awareness about women rights, HIV/AIDS, capacity building, marketing and exhibition.-Need based curriculum to enhance the skills of the women beneficiaries.-To impart skills to the target beneficiaries. -Enhanced awareness on social issues through charcha mandal/ seminars etc.- Exposure visits to broaden their horizon and enlighten them on the latest trends in the market. -Measure and monitor beneficiary performance and certify the skills. -Regular followups during and post completion of course to assess their social and economical impact.
