“We received a distress call saying that a blind girl is being held captive by a woman and is being forced to beg. Our volunteers were able to rescue that girl and bring her to the Blind Welfare Society home for girls. We cared for her and educated her. Today that girl is a senior government official”, says Asha Bhola, President, Blind Welfare Society (BWS) as she recalls how her organisation has been able to transform lives.BWS has been a ray of hope for 40 such blind girls, many of whom have been abandoned by their families owing to their visual impairment. Sadly, the care, shelter and education for blind girls come at a cost, and BWS is unable to keep its work going. According to the nonprofit office bearer, “Many parents neglect their blind daughters and at times even sell them off for begging, etc. Even if the girl is from a well-to-do family, they feel providing education and care to a blind girl is a waste of money”. “What is the fault of an innocent child?”, she asks.Education, the only hope “These girls have no future without education. If they don’t receive education, they will remain uncared for. They will continue to be ignored by not just their families but even by society at large. Whatever I am today is only because of the education I received. But sadly, every blind girl is not as fortunate. “The major problem in society today is the stigma against mentally ill or mentally disabled people. Families feed and care for men who are mentally ill and keep them at home. But no one wants to help women with mental illnesses,” says N Vanitha Rengaraj, chairperson of Sharanalayam.Sharanalaym’s ‘Jothi’ is a sanctuary for over 100 women facing mental challenges. Many women were rehabilitated by the NGO, thanks to its facilities.Sharanalayam needs urgent support to take care of over 100 women. Our pedagogy and tech-based tools enable systemic change to achieve better learning outcomes, which are scalable and deployed through partnerships with governments, NGOs, multilateral and bi-lateral agencies. Sol’s ARC creates scalable learning solutions that meet the diverse learning needs of all children with focus on children at risk for  health, mental health, nutritional deficits and disability.We follow a lifespan approach for addressing the challenges faced by children at risk for health, mental health, nutritional deficits and disability to ensure equitable opportunities from education to livelihood. Key programs - <ol><li>Inclusive Curriculum- Providing inclusive curriculum in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy using Universal Design of learning principles and building capacity of the teachers to improve learning outcomes of all children.</li><li>App Based Screening - identifying children at risk for  health, mental health, nutritional deficits and disability using screening App and training the teachers in identifying and supporting children.</li><li>Skill based training - Creating livelihood solutions for PwDs via centre based and partnership model in urban and livelihood model in rural.</li></ol>We now have a proven systemic model at scale to make learning inclusive for all and are currently working in 3 states, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Nagaland to ensure that children at risk are identified and All children achieve Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. We also work through strategic partnerships with leading NGOs like Educate Girls, Teach for India, Akanksha Foundation etc. in more than 13 states. Our innovative solutions are systemic, replicable, scalable and sustainable. We build the capacity of the Government by working together with them, to integrate the solutions in the system to make the system accountable.

100 million children are at risk for lagging behind in learning and life outcomes due to disabilities, mental health or abuse. Less than 10% of these are getting identified and even lesser are getting the right intervention. The consequences of not tackling these risks are huge and can vary from dropping out of school to turning towards criminal activities. These risks affects not only their education but chances of employment. Low awareness in teachers and parents have led to low identification and even lower interventions for these children at risk. What is missing is a systemic and programmatic approach to solve this at scale. 
 Sol's ARC in partnership with Tamilnadu state government will build inclusive solution from Education and Employment to ensure that every individual realizes their full potential. This is project Samavesh (Which means Inclusion)Sol’s Arc will work with the key state officials in the Samgra Siksha Abhiyan to integrate solutions from K - 12. We will work with Tamil Nadu state officials to integrate this program as a pilot in 3 districts in the next 3 years. Sol's ARC model<ol><li>Co-create learning solutions with the government which will improve learning outcomes for all children(K - 12) leaving no child behind.</li><li>Implementing a mobile based screening tool which will help identify risk factors children face.</li><li>Co-create vocational solutions with the government which will improve employment outcomes for young adults.</li><li>Training various stakeholders through the cascade model till capacity of the system is built.</li><li>Tracking outcomes through rigorous data collection and analysis. </li></ol> 
 This program is projected to impact approximately 30,000 children, 1000 teachers in 1000 schools in 3 years in three districts in Tamilnadu. The impact the program will create -<ol><li>Increase in learning gains in literacy and numeracy.</li><li>Increased screening and awareness of teachers and other stakeholder for risk that children face.</li><li>Improved employment opportunities especially for individuals with disability.</li><li>Increased capacity of various stakeholders in the state of Tamilnadu.</li></ol>
