The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, and very limited access to healthcare and quality education”, says Bipin Dhane, founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Owing to his childhood experiences Bipin was always inclined towards helping the less fortunate, and he believed in the transformative power of education. It was in 2016 that Bipin left his lucrative career abroad and moved to Majuli, to provide the children from this inaccessible river island education they were deprived of.“Whatever little money I had saved, I gave it to my parents. I had no money to start the school. It was then that villagers came together to build bamboo huts. Each family donated bamboo, wood, and whatever little they could. Sow Good began in 2015 as an urban parent initiative to nurture a more nature-aware generation. Slowly, it grew into a community of like-minded people who believe that it’s important for us to stay in touch with nature despite our urban lifestyle, and took shape as a Learning Farm for children, by children. We formally registered as a non-profit in 2020.Today, we partner with BNHS and USFS along with other national and international organisations that are working in the field of education and nature conservation in an urban scenario. Over the years, we have touched the lives of more than 70,000 children and 820 educators in and around Delhi/NCR. Our facilitators conduct regular nature-connect sessions with students from over 14 schools. From preparing the soil to deciding what to sow where, taking care of the crop as it grows naturally, facing challenges and finding solutions to overcome them; children lead the journey of a seed as it becomes food. Along the way, they learn a lot more than just growing vegetables. They design and create composting units, learn to segregate waste and handle it responsibly, learn the importance of insects in our lives, learn to respect life and nature, and understand how they can live more responsibly in synergy with our planet. Qualities like patience, drive, resilience, co-existence, intuition, teamwork and gratitude are not just words then, but tangible first-hand experiential learning that will stay with them for life.  Most importantly, it helps us in safeguarding the future of Earth, by nurturing the next generation in a manner that’s more aware and friendly towards nature. Join us in this initiative to reach out to more and more children through our Learning farms across schools in Delhi/NCR.
