Sphoorti Foundation

There are two categories of children who need major intervention for their rehabilitation and relief. The first category is orphan/destitute children who lack parental care and guidance. If not taken care of, they might turn against society and become a liability. The second category of children belong to families living in impoverished communities, often from the lower strata of society, earning livelihood through daily wage labor and menial jobs. Education of children is never given the importance it deserves. Most girls are married off as soon as they attain puberty and most boys drop out of school to pursue low-paying jobs. For these children, education is the only hope to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty and illiteracy. 
 For orphan and destitute children, Sphoorti provide them long-term care. This includes basic needs, education and healthcare, and skills necessary to transform them into responsible citizens. We are based in Hyderabad and have three Children Homes (all in the same locality) - two for boys and one for girls. We also have a separate cooking and dining facility. The total strength of children in our premises is 200. For children belonging to poor families, we sponsor education in collaboration with corporate and nonprofit partners. Currently, we are supporting around 200 such children. 
 The most visible impact that our work brought in the lives of children is that none of our children feel that they are orphan. Without our support, most girls would have got married and borne children and most boys would have been landless/daily wage laborers. Poverty and ignorance would have propagated down the generations in absence of our support. For example, four of our children are studying in Bhavan's Degree College, one of Hyderabad's best colleges. But for our intervention, they would have led a miserable life in one of the remotest areas of Andhra Pradesh.

Ganga Mishra's parents belong to Bihar.They moved to Hyderabad in search of work about 20 years ago. Ganga was born in Hyderabad and studied until STD XII. She scored 990/ 1000 in Intermediate.Her father works as a Security Guard while her mother works as a maid. The family is too poor to send their bright child to a good College.Ganga is not eligible for any reimbursement, therefore, did not opt for Engineering. She gave up on further studies and decided to search for a small job.Sphoorti has decided to give her an opportunity to pursue Higher education as she is extremely gifted and promising. She has taken admission in BSc (Hons) Data Science. She needs Rs 78000 for her College Fee and Rs 2000 for books for the first year.Ganga wishes to be an IAS Officer in future.

For 2024-25, we will have more than 250 students in Sphoorti Model School, Dundigal (Medchal District) and 1250 students in Sphoorti Akshara Yagnam Project in Tirupati. where we run 60 After-School Study Centers for 1250 children. These children belong to notified slum areas and tribal hamlets in and around Tirupati.All the beneficiaries belong to the following categoriesa) Children who lost one parent or both the parents  b) First generation school goers c) Children from Most Backward Classes d) Children belonging to low-income groups, tribal hamlets as defined by the State Government. e) Children whose parents are HIV/AIDS infected or suffering from terminal illnessFor many children, a school bag and notebooks are a luxury. Providing these will boost the morale of such kids and they feel like coming to the school regularly. We wish to provide a school bag to each of these children. Each School Bag will be filled with essential resources that will enable a child to write, draw, color, calculate, express themselves, eat, drink and above all, learn.A typical School Bag contains: 10 pencils, 3 pens, a set of crayons/sketch pens, a pencil case, 10 notebooks, a drawing book, a 500 ml water bottle, a small towel, a bar of soap, a tooth brush, and a tube of toothpaste.Each set costs Rs 1600.

Livelihood

Covid19 has adversely affected financial health of many families. The poor have become extremely poor. Families have lost earning members and livelihoods. 
 We are providing training to women of such families in sewing and allied activities. In deserving cases, we are donating new sewing machines to women after their training. This gives them the confidence to work hard and create their own destiny. 
 On completion of training, the women are able to create their own livelihood and support their families.

Sphoorti Livelihood Project

Sphoorti Foundation is a non-profit organization working for underprivileged children - orphaned, abandoned, destitute, and other vulnerable groups. Our mission is to change the lives of such children - by providing them with long-term care. This includes basic needs, education and healthcare, and skills necessary to transform them into responsible citizens.We run Sphoorti Model School, a residential school that provides free education to underprivileged children. We also provide education support to more than 100 children for Intermediate and Degree courses (BTech, BCom, BSc, BPharm).In addition, we provide lunch to more than 75 homeless people everyday in Tirupati.
