For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. Our mission is to change the lives of such children - by providing them with long-term care. There are two categories of children who need major intervention for their rehabilitation and relief. The first category is orphan/destitute children who lack parental care and guidance. If not taken care of, they might turn against society and become a liability. The second category of children belong to families living in impoverished communities, often from the lower strata of society, earning livelihood through daily wage labor and menial jobs. Education of children is never given the importance it deserves. Most girls are married off as soon as they attain puberty and most boys drop out of school to pursue low-paying jobs. For these children, education is the only hope to break out of the vicious cycle of poverty and illiteracy. 
 For orphan and destitute children, Sphoorti provide them long-term care. This includes basic needs, education and healthcare, and skills necessary to transform them into responsible citizens. We are based in Hyderabad and have three Children Homes (all in the same locality) - two for boys and one for girls. We also have a separate cooking and dining facility. The total strength of children in our premises is 200. For children belonging to poor families, we sponsor education in collaboration with corporate and nonprofit partners. Currently, we are supporting around 200 such children. 
 The most visible impact that our work brought in the lives of children is that none of our children feel that they are orphan. Without our support, most girls would have got married and borne children and most boys would have been landless/daily wage laborers. Poverty and ignorance would have propagated down the generations in absence of our support. For example, four of our children are studying in Bhavan's Degree College, one of Hyderabad's best colleges. But for our intervention, they would have led a miserable life in one of the remotest areas of Andhra Pradesh.

Provide a strong foundation for a child’s formal education

Children from Sphoorti Foundation enter Degree Colleges to pursue Bachelors Programs in streams of their choice viz. Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Law and Commerce. They are orphaned and destitute children. They need support for education as well as for living in a hostel. As there is no source of support from their parents/relatives. Your generosity alone can keep their hopes alive. Many Sphoorti children who have completed their Higher Education are working in good companies. 
 These children are provided admission various Colleges through entrance examinations (Engineering, Law and Pharmacy) and based on their performance in Intermediate studies (Commerce, Sciences) and accommodation in a hostel in Hyderabad. We need your help for their College Fees and their food and other living expenses. 
 These children if left uncared for would slip into poverty and will never ever have a chance to lead a decent life. Your support will help them pursue Higher Education and look forward to a promising future.
