The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, no healthcare, no education, there was absolutely nothing”, says Bipin Dhane founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Owing to his childhood experiences Bipin was always inclined towards helping the less fortunate, and he believed in the transformative power of education. I had no money to start the school. It was then that villagers came together to build bamboo huts. Each family donated bamboo, wood, and whatever little they could. It has been established to achieve the vision of Gram Swaraj; in which every villager/citizen realizes its human potential and contributes to development of village as well as nation through participatory, transparent and accountable local self-governance system. It was conceptualised and founded by a renowned Gandhian Thinker and Social Activist Late Shree Paras Bhai with his 24 colleagues in 1992; and registered as formal organization in July 2004 under Societies Registration Act 21, 1860. Founder of SATHI, Late Shree Paras Bhai was the follower of Gandhian ideology and part of promoting Gram Swaraj initiatives post-independence in most underdeveloped regions of country.SATHI beliefs that long term and sustainable changes can be created by the collective efforts of different development actors as Civil Society Organizations - CSOs, Community Based Organizations-CBOs, and Development Professionals or committed Civil Society Individuals.This belief encourages to engage- i)                   To the grassroots civil society organizations-CSOs for their organizational development, building development perspective and enhancing thematic understanding to implement community development interventions.ii)                 To build leadership in Community Based Organizations-CBOs, developing &amp; enhancing their understanding on different issue specific themes works to mobilize and sensitize the community.iii)               Building leadership and their capacity building on thematic issues contribute in effective mobilization and bringing the changes in community for particular development agenda.iv)               Implementing Community based intervention on different developmental and social issues to create development model to expand and replicate at larger level. Since its inception, SATHI has been engaged bringing positive changes among marginalized communities in the collaboration of different development stakeholders through capacitating to grassroots level civil society groups and implementing community-based intervention in underdeveloped regions of Uttar Pradesh.
