The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, and very limited access to healthcare and quality education”, says Bipin Dhane, founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Owing to his childhood experiences Bipin was always inclined towards helping the less fortunate, and he believed in the transformative power of education. It was in 2016 that Bipin left his lucrative career abroad and moved to Majuli, to provide the children from this inaccessible river island education they were deprived of.“Whatever little money I had saved, I gave it to my parents. I had no money to start the school. It was then that villagers came together to build bamboo huts. Each family donated bamboo, wood, and whatever little they could. The wedding was canceled, and the girl continued her education.According to Asha, children from villages have a burning desire to study and make a successful life for themselves but very rarely do these dreams come true. "There is a boy in our programme. Despite being alone, he studies, does all the housework, and looks after his younger siblings," Asha recounts. When his parents tried to take him and his siblings to work at a brick kiln, the boy resisted, saying, "I want to study and I want my young siblings to study as well."Why Education MattersEducation is the key to breaking the cycle of generational poverty. Cause 1: Foundational Education for the Potraj Community Many children from the Potraj nomadic tribe face barriers to formal education due to their nomadic lifestyle and socio-economic challenges. To address this, we operate Community Learning Centers (CLCs) in three rural locations of Belgaum district. These centers provide:  3-hour daily learning sessions focused on language, mathematics, and science. Life skills training and mentorship to build confidence, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. A bridge to reintegrate children into formal schools for long-term academic success. Cause 2: Reducing School Dropouts We work closely with the community and schools to reduce dropout rates. Our efforts have led to:  An 80% reduction in dropouts among children in the Potraj community. Re-enrollment of 104 students into formal education, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive. Cause 3: Community-Driven Educational Leadership We believe in creating educational leaders from within the community who understand its unique challenges. These leaders not only teach but also inspire and mentor, becoming role models for others to follow.  Cause 4: Building a Sustainable Vision Our long-term goal is to create at least 5 learners from each center who complete higher education and secure meaningful jobs or start businesses. These individuals will serve as change-makers, inspiring their community to value education and work towards self-improvement.
