For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. “The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. Women play a pivotal role in the development of any nation as she is an all encompassing circle of life. Within her lies the power to create, to nurture and to transform and empowering her is equivalent to empowering generations. It is with this thought and belief that Swadhar was founded in Mumbai in 1983 by Late Prof. Meenakshi Apte along with social activist Late Mrunal Gore. With profound social work being done in Mumbai, Meenakshi Tai decided to replicate the effort in Pune and Swadhar- Pune was established in 1995 as a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) with membership open to all.Initially, the core focus of Swadhar was to help women in distress irrespective of their caste, religion, community or financial status. In 1998 Swadhar added childcare under its umbrella and became Swadhar IDWC (Institute for Development of Women and Children). So apart from addressing women centric issues, we also began working towards the education, health-care and overall development of disadvantaged children with special emphasis on a girl-child.Swadhar, true to its name, is working relentlessly towards creating self-reliant women &amp; children by empowering them with knowledge about their rights, thus enabling them to lead a dignified life. We are now also on an upward curve headed for resolution of issues of a family as one unit.

Renu (name changed) is a little 8-year-old girl who deserves the opportunities of education, healthcare, and a safe and happy home. But most of all, she deserves to have a childhood. This basic requirement of a child was brutally ripped from her the day she and her sister became victims of a grotesque sexual crime; a crime that left them severely physically and mentally disturbed. With a police case registered, Renu was ushered into the protection of Swadhar IDWC. Here she was given special medical care and a nutritional diet prescribed by a doctor, as well as counselling and health monitoring.She was unfortunately diagnosed with TB but after months of meticulous medical aid, she has made a full recovery and is now enrolled in a school where she has joined over 85 children who have access to food, shelter, education, healthcare services, and co-curricular activities.These innocent children can now take advantage of hobby classes, e-learning, exposure visits, and life-skill training to give them the tools they need to make a better life for themselves. Renu's case is not unique to her. This is daily life for so many young boys and girls in Pune, which is why we need your support to end the vicious cycle of exploitation and violence. We delved into the intricacies of the Mohor budget, which supports a shelter home for children of sex workers. This two-year project is designed to offer these children not just shelter but also a nurturing environment for education and holistic development. An important change we noted is the division of the project into separate boys' and girls' homes, as mandated by the Child Welfare Committee for children over the age of 11. Our discussions on fund utilization revealed the organization's transparent accounting practices and careful expenditure, particularly in the purchase of groceries for the shelter. Swadhar IDWC's close monitoring of the project, including rigorous record-keeping in both digital and hard-copy formats, and the regular monthly review meetings, were commendable. Upon our visit to the Mohor Project at noon, we had the privilege of interacting with the dedicated staff and beneficiaries at the shelter home. It was inspiring to witness the comprehensive care provided to over 65 children, hailing from diverse backgrounds, including orphans, abandoned children, those with medical conditions, and those in conflict with the law. The meticulous record-keeping, provision of nutritious meals in accordance with the JJ Act, and the availability of educational resources like a computer lab and library stood out. The staff's commitment to maintaining the children's well-being and grooming, despite the challenges of their parents' chosen occupation, was truly heartening. The children expressed their satisfaction with the care and educational opportunities they receive and shared their aspirations for higher studies. 🙏 Your kindness knows no bounds, and it's what keeps us going. Project Rays of Hope (RoH) aims to reduce‘food insecurity’ in the beneficiaries. 
 1 &amp; 2The RoH team also finalized 10 parameters to find out the physical, economical, familial and social conditionof a beneficiary. (eg. both parents infected but alive and are working and child not infected is a tolerable condition, where as an orphan, infected child, looked after by a foster family is a highly critical condition) There are 140 children registered in the project. Each child is labelled as inHighly critical condition: +++Less critical condition: ++Tolerable condition: +Depending upon these parameters, the team structuredthe grocery package which is more effective nutritionwise and with less wastage. 
 By providing monthly groceries and nutritional supplements, starvation among children has reduced, health has improved thereby absentism in school has reduced. Children become qualified for higher education/vocational training and are better prepared to become financially independent.

It is observed that children of CSW are drawn into the same profession when they grow up. 
 Project tries to prevents second generation prostitution of children living in red light area by defending. their rights and dignity and providing a safe environment. Children from 3 months to 12 years are provided with long term care and rehabilitation to break the cycle of exploitation. Children above 12 years are put in institutions through CWC so that they are shifted away from the red light area. 
 Project aims at holistic development of these children by providing them safe shelter and care and also ensuring a normal childhood in a safe environment in our effort to main stream them.
