Help Disabled Children with Shelter & Care

For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Dr. Bhagat prioritizes the health of the seniors and ensures that they receive three balanced meals a day based on their precise health requirements. Need for the fundraiserThe humanitarian mission of SHEOWS is making an impact in the area, as more and more people are being rescued and brought to Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “We received a distress call saying that a blind girl is being held captive by a woman and is being forced to beg. Our volunteers were able to rescue that girl and bring her to the Blind Welfare Society home for girls. We cared for her and educated her. Today that girl is a senior government official”, says Asha Bhola, President, Blind Welfare Society (BWS) as she recalls how her organisation has been able to transform lives.BWS has been a ray of hope for 40 such blind girls, many of whom have been abandoned by their families owing to their visual impairment. Sadly, the care, shelter and education for blind girls come at a cost, and BWS is unable to keep its work going. Differently Abled

TNDFCT provides livelihood support for people with disabilities to establish small trade and vending shops, street vending stalls, and Aavin booths. Beneficiaries receive entrepreneurial training to successfully operate their businesses, empowering them to earn Rs. 500 to 1000 per day. This initiative promotes financial independence, enabling individuals to live with dignity. TNDFCT's support fosters self-sufficiency, uplifting beneficiaries and their families across Tamil Nadu.

Livelihood

TNDFCT provides scholarships, educational kits (including school bags, notebooks, stationery), and free tuition to support students with disabilities and those with disabled parents, ensuring they can continue their education. Through this initiative, TNDFCT reaches over 1,000 students annually, reducing financial burdens and promoting equal learning opportunities. These efforts help empower students, enabling them to overcome barriers and work towards a brighter future.

Education

NDFCT offers comprehensive mobility support to people with disabilities, providing essential aids such as wheelchairs, calipers, crutches, battery-operated and NEO Motion wheelchairs, walking sticks, spectacles for the visually impaired, and hearing aids. Additionally, TNDFCT organizes health and awareness camps to ensure accessible healthcare and provides health cards to disabled families, enabling free medical treatment. These initiatives enhance independence and well-being, empowering individuals to lead healthier, more dignified lives.

Healthcare

March/April, with around 1,500 disabled athletes from across Tamil Nadu participating. TNDFCT supports rural athletes by covering food, accommodation, and transportation, and winners receive cash prizes and trophies. The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu also awards certificates, helping athletes qualify for national and international events. To promote cultural talents, TNDFCT established "Nadipu Kottagai," led by retired Senior Professor Mr. Madhan Gabriel, offering training in acting, dance, and editing to showcase and develop artistic skills among the disabled.

Most of the people with physical disability are being deserted by their families. Due to this, they do not get a proper education, job, livelihood, etc. Most of them beg on the streets for a single meal. So the concern of the organization is to eradicate this situation and support them for a simple livelihood. 
 In this society, the differently-abled are struggling to have a decent livelihood with self-respect. In order to to make this happen we are identifying individuals with physical disability and give them training on how to assemble a cycle or a two-wheeler. After the training, an assembling kit worth Rs. 10,000/- will be given for them to go in the city and start their own business. 
 This sustainable project will enhance the livelihood of the disabled people. They can become self-entrepreneurs and get skilled in this particular field, and hence, earn their chance at a normal life. The number of total beneficiaries for a year shall be around 300.

Skill Training Program on Bicycle Assembling & Servicing

Due to mobility constraints and poverty, hardly 20% of the differently-abled persons get a formal education. The differently-abled are forced to be dependent on family members and have to lead a miserable life. They cannot even dream of dignified living. 
 We have identified ten such not well-educated, differently-abled persons, with an aspiration for a dignified life. We will provide 8 days of fulltime residential training on " cycle repairing" to them. A new cycle will be bought and completely knocked off into components. Then they are trained in assembling the components, rectifying punctures, wheel alignment/positioning etc. They are also trained on moped/scooter puncture remedies.They will also be provided with a basic repair toolkit. They can put a small cycle repair shop in any petrol bunk or on the platform. They can earn Rs. 300 to 500 every day. 
 10 disabled persons shall work at the workshop and will be no more dependent.-They can also support their family with their income. -A liability is now transformed into an asset and pride of the family. - 10 families are now living dignified lives.

Dignified life for the Differently-Abled by starting a Cycle Repair Shop

The main problem for employability of disabled persons is they do not get formal education. The reasons are their inherent mobility problem, social inclusion, affordability of parents in providing special transportation etc. When education itself a problem, the same is getting reflected in the employability and employment statistics.  	Covid 19 has made many persons lose their jobs and suffer with no money and it is more striking with Disabled persons. Many organizations tend to relieve disabled persons first during any man power reduction. Unskilled and Semi skilled disabled persons are the worst affected due to Covid 19 lockdown. This project aims to provide small shops with Entrepreneurial skill training to such disabled persons , so that they can establish and run a small business for their livelihood support. 
 	This project aims to provide livelihood opportunities by providing Mobile cart . Suitable training will also be imparted to equip with the skills to run the shop successfully. <ul><li> A cart like structure Mobile cart which can be installed in a pre-approved place.   A mobile cart which can be moved will be given at a cost of 	  Rs. 40,000/- including GST and working capital requirement of Rs. 10,000 for procurement of products/equipments at varied costs depending </li><li> upon the models. Total cost per mobile cart will be Rs.50,000/-  </li><li>The skills required to run such shops (procurement, inventory, marketing skills, cash-flow management, etc.) can be imparted with a three day training program.</li><li> Further hand holding and counseling will improve the success rate.</li><li> Hence, the Disabled people who are not equipped with good education or skills but have the aspiration to be self-reliant, will find this as a </li><li> dignified way to earn sufficiently for a decent living.</li><li> The earning per day can vary from Rs.500 to Rs.1000 depending upon the type of merchandise/service, location and the salesmanship.</li><li> The training will be with practical inputs on merchandising, procurement, inventory management and marketing skills.</li></ul>  
 <ul><li>With focus on disabled beneficiaries who are unskilled and not very literate to take up any other type of employment or service, this project shall revitalize the lives of these Disabled people.</li><li>The beneficiaries are expected to be transformed into self reliant individuals who are economically and financially self-sustaining. It is not the quantity matter. But the quality of transformation matters. It is not 1 cart; but 1 family.</li><li> The self reliance of the beneficiaries shall become a matter of pride to their families, who will be more than willing to help the beneficiaries to grow. The dependent now will become supporter of the family. </li></ul>

STAND WITHOUT LEGS A LIVELIHOOD PROJECT FOR DIFFERENTLY ABLED

Perumbakkam is a settlement area of Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB). More than 3000 differently abled people live with their families in this locality. Due to limited mobility and no access in public transport, they are unable to avail information and services related to their disabilities. There is need to put in piace a fully furnished and accessible integrated information &amp; Service Center to serve the cause of the differently abled persons in this locality. 
 To resolve the issues faced by the differently abled in Perumbakkam, the Govt. of Tamil Nadu allotted 600 sq.feet (built-up area) building to the TNDFCT in the residential complex of Slum Clearance Board in Perumbakkam. TNDFCT proposes to establish a comprehensive, fully-functional Disability Resource Centre to provide services like counseling, guidance, medical support, access to information on education, life-skills, employment opportunities and training suiting the differently abled. Proper infrastructure, a IT set-up, furnishing, etc, are to be made to make the Centre functional and accessible. 
 A full fledged disability Resource Centre will be established at Perumbakkam with of necessary infrastructure. IT set-up and furnishing. Regular counseling guidance program and training session will be conducted at the Centre which will functions as nodal information and grievances redressal center for the welfare of the differently abled.
