For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. “What will happen to them after me? I am 80+. I spend sleepless nights,” worries ex-Air Force officer, Group Captain AC Barua while talking about the future of the 28 destitute women under his care. “They have nobody in this world, sometimes they don’t remember their own names. They are absolutely alone,” he informs us as he goes from one room to the other meeting all the women who live at Seneh, the only home where they are loved and taken care of. After fighting for his country all his life, this octogenarian is now fighting to rescue homeless and abandoned women from dying on the streets. But he cannot do it alone. “Everyday I keep on getting calls from here and there. ‘Oh! there’s a woman lying here. Can you help?’ But I don’t dare to go and help because I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources, our resources are very limited,” explains Gr. Capt. Many times these are women with mental health conditions and considered being a witch due to superstitious beliefs and beaten up as a result. They are victims of domestic abuse or widow mothers who are considered to be a burden on the family. Group Captain Barua has not only rescued them from critical conditions, he has provided them with urgent medical care, food and above all, a free safe shelter where they can live with love and care. Among these residents is Sarala Kalita who fled to save herself from the tortures of her alcoholic husband only to face neglect and trauma from her brothers- and sisters-in-law. “Both my brothers and their wives urged my father to leave me somewhere as they didn’t want to take care of me anymore. One day my brother’s wife didn’t even let me have food at home. She just wanted me to leave and go away. So that’s why, my father got in touch with Seneh through someone, and handed me over to Sir to take care of me,” says Sarita who has found joy in living at Seneh. “Coming to Seneh, it felt like I got a new life altogether. Sir has given me a harmonium. I love singing. It makes me forget everything and takes me to someplace else entirely,” she adds. More women like Sarala can find their way to a loving home like Seneh. All they need is a little bit of your kindness. “It is difficult to make both ends meet”To sustain their daily expenditure, Capt Barua needs approx ₹3 lakh a month and arranging the funds is a mammoth challenge for the NGO. “Our expenses are growing day by day. Residents are growing older, their sicknesses are increasing. At times we have to give them special food. They require more care so we have to get more employees. About half of them require leading around, 1-2 has to be fed also. It will be very difficult to sustain it unless we get help,” he added. One act of your kindness can save these abandoned women, with no one in this world, from struggling on the streets to survive. The menstrual and reproductive health of women is a very important aspect of women’s development. However, India is lagging behind in this aspect due to the taboo related to menstruation, and the lack of menstrual hygiene management facilities. Millions of girls drop out of school annually due to the shame on the subject and unavailability of menstrual hygiene facilities. 70% of all the reproductive diseases in India are caused by poor menstrual health. Underprivileged women opt for unhygienic materials to absorb their menstrual flow because they cannot afford healthier materials. Many women are not even aware of the importance of using hygienic materials during those cycles. The Covid-19 situation has made things worse for menstruating women. The lockdown badly hit the income sources of many who earned through daily wage labor. This has created a barrier for women to obtain the necessary staff for their menstrual hygiene. The once who had chosen to replace rags with sanitary napkins kit may have to go back to the unhygienic materials they once used. The pandemic has left women with no choice but to sacrifice their health. 
 A large number of underprivileged people stay in Babu Camp, Sambav Camp, Vimbasti, Viru camp &amp; Sapera Basti near Chatterpur, South Delhi. Through the project ‘Sakha’, Tare Zameen Foundation has been organizing free distribution of sanitary napkins kit for the underprivileged girls and women in these areas since its inception. Along with it, the organization has also been spreading awareness on menstrual hygiene. It has made effort to empower women by encouraging them to talk about menstruation and speak up against the stigma related to it. Since, it is the time of pandemic the organization is not conducting awareness camps as of now. Nevertheless, it is still distributing sanitary kits along with helpful advises for all the underprivileged women in the said areas.The organization needs your support to continue working for the cause.  
 The project will create awareness among the poor and the downtrodden regarding Menstrual Health and Hygiene by distributing free sanitary napkins kit to those who can’t afford it. It helps empower people and makes them self- reliant by which they can contribute to the development of the nation.With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, India underwent a nationwide lockdown. Even though this is slowly getting removed and has reached the unlocking stage 4, but educational institutions are still not allowed to reopen.The closure of these institutions has greatly impacted studies. To cope up with this loss most of the private educational institutions have shifted towards virtual learning mode using video conferring for lectures and e-books to study from. But due to the due lack of gadgets and modern technologies many children in rural areas are not able to attend online classes as well as are not able to get the books to study from.This has led many students in rural areas to dropout thereby bringing down the situation of education in India.

Meri Pehchan- Providing basic education and books to unprivileged boys and girls

The COVID-19 pandemic is raging across the country and continues to loom large over us. The Government of India and the various State governments have taken decisions to combat the situation by imposing lockdowns at various hotspots spanning the entire nation.  Delhi which is facing a severe crisis has handled the situation in multifold ways such as increasing the number of RT-PCR tests, involving more mobile labs for testing and increasing the number of ICU and oxygen beds. At this great hour of need, The Tare Zameen Foundation has stepped in to provide relief by providing food items to various underprivileged families residing in its communities in South Delhi area near Shanti Colony. 
 By adhering to all safety and hygiene measures, Tare Zameen Foundation has begun its relief service by providing Covid Relief Kits comprising of raw food items and sanitary products to this marginalised and low-income segment of the society comprising of daily wage workers, migrant labourers, construction site workers, and needy old age people. Each of the Covid Relief Kits comprises of food items such as Sugar, Rice Chidwa, Dal, Refined Oil and Sanitary items including Sanitary Napkins, Face Masks, Hand sanitisr and Hand wash bottles.  Tare Zameen Foundation is Non-profit organization based in Delhi working in the sector of health, education and environment.
