If they are ill or injured, they are never given treatment. They are tied up in small spaces. Where there is space barely for 10, they keep 20, 30 or even 40 animals. And these animals spend their entire life in these painful conditions", says Dr Asher Jesudoss, animal welfare activist, who fights against the abuse of farmed animals.According to him, several crude, illegal and violent methods/practices are used to extract milk from cattle, which leave thousands with illnesses. “Labour pains are induced in cattle by injecting drugs; they are made to forcefully let down milk twice a day unnaturally. Their calves are pulled away and are not allowed to drink their mother’s milk. •	Thane SPCA is the ONLY Animal Hospital in the district of Thane, Maharashtra. It runs a full fledged Hospice facility with a separate areas for canines, felines, cattle, wild birds, turtles and primates, an Intensive Care Unit and a Digital Radiography.Our Aims and Objectives are Ameliorative, Preventive,Curative, Supportive and Educative. We run Mobile Clinics at the different Municipal Corporations, we try to to focus on implementation of animal rights at various points of bureaucracy through Right To Information and correction thereof, we rescue abused animals and rehome them after having treated them, we fight legal cases for animal cruelty and we hold awareness programmes to spread the message of Compassion and Kindness. We work very closely with the State Forest Department for rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing wildlife. Till date we have treated and released more than 1,50,000 domestic and wild animals.

Most street and wild animals still do not have the luxury of basic medical treatment. The responsibility then rests on humane organizations like ours to extend our technology and support to them. Thousands of these animals die miserable deaths on the roads, unattended and alone. Several thousands are abandoned because of medical conditions, leaving them to die on the roads. Animals have a right to live alongside humans, they are an integral part of the ecosystem. They have rights. But they do not have the capacity to provide relief for their disabilities. Working for animals rights and welfare we consider providing critical care hospital services to street animals as of utmost importance.  Street animals have a unique place of importance in our community. It is our obligation to give them a healthy life if they are to be of service to us. Surgical intervention means that at least 40 animals a month will be spared living on the streets with apparently incurable conditions, fending for themselves, succumbing to untreated illnesses, become the victims of abuse, or be turned over to an animal shelter and finally have to be euthanised because they were a burden on society.This is the hallmark of a progressive society where animals are given equal treatment as their human counterparts.

Animals Matter - Action for Street Animals

Every day severely injured animals need to be rescued from the streets of Thane and ferried to the only animal hospital where they can be treated. Not having any ambulatory service in the district implies that hundreds of animals are dependent on the Thane SPCA ambulance services for their lives. Thane SPCA staff is fully trained in all aspects of animal first aid and transport injured and stray/abandoned animals to our veterinary hospital. The ambulances run 7 days a week, 365 days a year. However; one of our ambulances is over 8 years old and after logging more than 1,50,000 kms, needs to be replaced.With one less ambulance, around 400 animals would be denied critical care services / month. 
 Thane SPCA runs the only full fledged hospital for animals in Thane district and our ambulances are our support system in saving approximately 700 animals per month on an average, which is about 70% of the average number of domestic and wild animals we treat every month. Our Motto is: RESCUE - REHAB - RELEASE. We provide different kinds of facilities for animals like: Medical Ward, Surgical ward, Out Patients Department, Ambulance Service all days of the week, Cattle ward, Cat Ward, Wild Animals Enclosures. 
 Since 2002, Thane SPCA has impacted the lives of 45,000 domestic and wild animals, curing them and rehabilitating them. The last 5 years have seen exponential growth in our activities with the support of our staff members and our facilities. We are targeting a 30% increase in spot treatment this year with the help of our new ambulance. A donation towards buying a new vehicle; would impact the lives of a minimum of 400 animals directly.
