And the worst affected are the children who grow up in red-light areas and are subjected to constant abuse and violence. “The sight of a 12-year-old girl being gang-raped by a group of men near a house l haunts me to this date. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. He has further supported over 20,000 children with a better life.Sadly, Of the 250 the children rescued from abuse and exploitation, around 70 of them are HIV positive. In May 2008, The Hope Home Children’s Foundation began with 3 girls who were orphaned and a heart to help many more. THHCF currently operates a girl’s home located in North Bangalore. This home is not a traditional orphanage, nor is it a hostel. We provide a warm and loving family home currently for 14 girls, between the ages of 5-18. Taking only those cases which are critical, we care for those girls who have lost their mother due to death or abandonment. With trained and qualified staff, our heart is to ensure that the children in our home grow up being loved.

The impoverished, destitute girl child is still a very large problem in our society. We have research that shows that when a mother commits suicide in the village or slum, most of the time it is due to an extra marital affair and most of the time the girl child is left unwanted and abandoned by her father. These are the cases we at THHCF have targeted. We are not only trying to rescue the girls in this societal taboo, but we are doing out best to reverse the destiny of that child. We know she must be loved, educated, and encouraged to live out her dreams. We currently rent 2 small homes in North Bangalore, which house 14 girls and 2 full-time staff. Our desire is to double our intake of girl children by expanding our scope to helping more motherless girls as well as young women who need vocational training. We are in the final stages of building a multi-purpose home and training facility. We desire these girls to have a quality education as well as life skills for any vocation that they choose to pursue. 
 In order to expand our scope we are building a family style, children's home and training center. We are currently in the final phases of construction for our new Hope Home. Designed in a modern day – traditional vernacular style of architecture this house will be home to 32 girls.A multi-purpose facility, the home totals over 12,000 square feet, and is 3 levels high. Built large enough to house 32 girls, it includes four staff rooms, a large kitchen and dining hall, a spacious area to facilitate a training center, as well as a beautiful basement for recreational purposes.We have given great care to ensure that the home is safe and secure, and facilitates our vision to create a family atmosphere, where girls feel happy and loved.
