For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. The Hope House aims to nurture and empower marginalised children to become successful and responsible citizens.Mr Ruby Nakka, the founder, grew up in a children's home in the united Andhra Pradesh for 12 years and it was his childhood desire to help children the the way he was helped.Mr. Nakka was living in the United States with his family that consisted of two adopted girls. It was his girls who reminded his family about the children in need of care and protection in India and also inspired him to forgo their well-paid jobs in the healthcare industry to relocate to India to start the Hope House. He in turn inspired two of his best friends (Manoah and Thomas) to join him in this endeavour.Currently, Hope House offers institutional and non-institutional services for the children. Hope House partners with the Government of India and other like-minded entities such as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Christian Medical College (CMC), and Railway Children.

As per the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), in 2014, Vellore district in Tamil Nadu, India, has the highest number of cases of child sexual abuse. The least of the numbers seem to indicate that at least 40% of Indian children are sexually abused, mostly by their own family members. The conservative culture of India prevents many from speaking and discussing about sex and reproductive health openly (including schools). Hence, many children grow up ignorant to the signs of sexual abuse.Physical injuries of victims of child sexual abuse may heal over a period of time, but the psychological scars will remain for life. We work with the Ministry of Women and Child Development of Government of India as a partner for implementing child-line project in Vellore District. One of the ways we have is to visit schools and educate the adolescents on sex and reproductive health. We make an audio-visual presentation and then distribute a colourful comic book called 'Menstrupedia' which beautifully illustrates menstrual hygiene in the most child-friendly manner that anyone can imagine. We intend to distribute 10,000 books in our district to make a net impact one one lakh girls, but we need more funds for that.We believe that this empowerment has many dividends. The educated adolescent knows how to take care of herself, to become tomorrows healthy adult who would pass on that information to her own children in the future. Hence, the impact that we intend to create wouldn't just touch one life, but an entire generation.

Educate 100,000 young girls in Vellore district about puberty and menstrual hygiene

Since all our children are babies but with special needs, our requiremet to visit the hospital is more frequent than normal babies. Currently, we are using a commercial three wheel auto rickshaws which is working out to be quite exhorbitantly expensive and unsafe. We need a vehicle but after an extensive deliberations, we thought we'll get an electric vehicle.We want to get an electric vehicle (Tata Nexon EV Prime). The reasoning behind this vehicle's choice is this:<ol><li>We want a multipurpose vehilce that can be used to take children to the hospital and also take the older children to school</li><li>We want to receive state extended incentives to reduce the cost of the vehilce</li><li>Reduce the overall fuel cost to maintain this vehilce</li><li>Reduce the overall maintanance cost (as it has less number of moving parts as in combustible vehicles)</li></ol>We planned to request all our staff to learn to drive a four wheeler and not have a driver and this will save us literally Rs. 20,000 per month on the cost of the fuel and the cost of recruiting a driver. Also, we have a solar power plant with which we intend to charge our car so that our electricity costs can be kept at bare minimum.

Please help us get an electric vehicle to take adoptable chidlren to the hospital

Hope House is the only 'Specialized Adoption Agency' (SAA) in India that is recognized as the agency to cater exclusively to children with special needs. Our objective is twin fold: 1. Extend the medical services that these children need, from a reputed tertiary level hospital and 2. Place them for adoption within the country as much as possible (as mandated by the principle of adoption). SAA's are funded by the Government but not all expenses are covered. We are grateful for as much support as the Government extends, we are determined to raise the remaining from our supporters and well wishers. 
 We want to raise Rs. 7,20,000 to support 10 children for the following expenses:<ol><li>Food: Each lactogen box costs approximately Rs. 360 and each child needs about 10 of them in a month: (Total costs for 10 children for 12 months is - Rs. 3600/ month/ child X 10 children X 12 months = Rs. 4,32,000)</li><li>Pampers: We try to use cloth diapers as much as we can while at the Hope House but we need pampers when we take them to the Hospital. We need 25 boxes small size pampers at Rs. 816 a box. (25 X Rs. 819 = Rs. 20,475)</li><li>Medical Expenses: We work with a local tertiary level medical institution for medical services which extends generously at free of cost but we do have to purchase medicines and other services: (Rs. 2,50,000 for all 10 children for one year)</li></ol> 
 These funds will enable us to care for 10 special needs children (to extend medical and rehabilitation services) and to place them in adoption within India which is not the norm at this moment.

Our <a href="www.indiahopehouse.org" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">children's home</a> has 23 children and eight staff. These are children that are classified as those that need "Care and Protection" and they are sent to us by the state Government. It is a continuous challenge to raise adequate funds to support the nutritional needs of the children. We have to maintain the government stipulated standard of care but such a care requires financial support to maintain. We cannot afford to be in an uncertain situation where we jeopardize the lives of the children which we do not want to do. 
 We are starting a project called "Sanjeevani" (meaning 'immortal') for any donor to remember their loved one by making a one donation of Rs. 10,000. We intend to keep that money in the fixed deposit and only use the 75% of the interest to feed the children on the designated day of the donor while the remaining 25% of the interest is reinvested into the corpus. This way our program is continued without any interruption of lowering the standard of care while allowing the corpus to grow. 
 This will program will feed all the children (23 chidlren) and the staff for a day and it also allows us to maintain the high standards of care that is prescribed in the JJ Act.
