“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Almost 50% of Students Commute To School On Foot In India: NAS 2021 Data.Nearly half of the school-going kids in India travel to their respective schools on foot. As per the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2021 - Ministry of Education, 48 per cent of students commute to school on foot, and 18 per cent use a bicycle. It also revealed that the total percentage of students using the school and public transport is around 9 per cent each. Meanwhile, 8% of students commute to school via their vehicle (two-wheeler), while just 3% come to school using their four-wheeler. 
 Akal Academy, under the aegis of The Kalgidhar Society, is always keen to improve the overall educational infrastructure of their schools in rural belts of 5 northern states, and precisely school transport as it is one of the significant aspects which plays a vital role in providing education to the students residing in the countryside. More than 37,500 students from over 6450 villages come to 129 Akal Academies daily, and we provide school transport to students living at a distance ranging from 4 to 60 kilometres. In an urban setup, this was a simple task. In rural areas, though, travelling is not easy as the transport facilities still need to be developed.

Due to lockdown for the last 52 days, unaided private schools are requested by the authorities not to charge school fees. Since fees received from the students is the only source of money for these schools in absence of the same schools are not able to pay salary of their staff for the last two months. In order to keep school going child’s mind focused during the lock down period these teachers are delivering on their duty daily by teaching the students on-line. This method of teaching being in nascent stages demands a lot of hard work and in absence of a salary.
