“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. While Lalitha has also helped many women escape the clutches of being forced into sex work, the SPID is focused on rescuing children and giving them a better life.Sadly, many more children need to be rescued and need a loving home. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. Gradually more and more mothers started coming to me and asked me to take their children away, even if it was just for a couple of hours,” he further adds.The work that Girish started in his youth gradually grew to become a movement, with many more joining his cause. Don Bosco Navajeevan is a child friendly centre started in October 1999 in the city of Hyderabad for children and youth at risk. It is run by the Salesians of Don Bosco and other collaborators who share a vision for a society in which children do not have to bear the burdens of deprivation and unhappiness.So far, about 25,000 children have benefited from personal contact by Don Bosco Navjeevan Society, out of whom 10,400 have been persuaded to return home. More than 350 children stay at Navajeevan shelters at New Bhoiguda, Nampally, Ramanthapur and Hayath Nagar where they are provided with three meals a day, formal and non-formal education and medical care. So far, job placements from Navajeevan have crossed 675. We are collaborating with state government and other NGOs in rescuing the children at risk in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The proposed project is aimed at forming eco clubs and organising child rights promotional activities through formation of evening tuition centres in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Our programmes are designed and implemented at the gross-root level, enabling the local community to participate and utilize their resources. The rich children get extra coaching through paid tuition classes whereas this facility is denied to poor children. Hence, they lag behind in education which ultimately ends up in their school dropping out from school. In order to help the poor children, we propose to run 10 free tuition centres in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, which will help 300 poor students to be benefited. It has been found out that these centres will immensely help the poor children in pursuing their education and promoting their performances. At each centre, 30 poor children studying between 1st to 10th class will be admitted. Special tutors will be imparting supportive education at each of these centres. The centers will be running at evening hours (5.00 p.m to 7.00 p.m) after the closing of schools at 4.30 p.m. A cup of nutritious beverage (hot milk) will be provided to the children. 
 Don Bosco Navajeevan is a child-friendly centre started in 1999 towards welfare of children and youth at risk. At Don Bosco Navajeevan, so far around 24,000 children and youth at risk have benefited from personal contact, out of which 98300 have been persuaded to return home. These children are provided three meals a day, medical care and clothes during their stay at DBNJ. More than 290 street children (boys and girls) stay in all the centres of Don Bosco Navajeevan, where 210 of them are given an opportunity to go to school and the rest are undergoing vocational training at our technical school. On an average, 50 floating children are always present at shelter. We are also running a day care centre at a slum where 40 children and youth are being assisted through our services. 
 Education is the right of the child and at times, children's rights are violated due to various reasons. Children are never given a change to voice their problems and needs, thus leaving them to live in an unsafe environment. This project majorly aims at building collective strength of children. The project supports children in their academics and enhances their talents. Children are a most neglected population and they are not involved in the process of development. The major support to children comes from parents and this projects aims at orienting, capacitating and training parents to understand and support children. Children are the future citizens of the country and they need to be empowered to bring about a difference in the community. The project provides a space for children to learn decision making, articulating and organizing small events that revoke the development process in the locality. This will improve the quality of education among children and will also enhance social responsibility.
