The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, and very limited access to healthcare and quality education”, says Bipin Dhane, founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Owing to his childhood experiences Bipin was always inclined towards helping the less fortunate, and he believed in the transformative power of education. It was in 2016 that Bipin left his lucrative career abroad and moved to Majuli, to provide the children from this inaccessible river island education they were deprived of.“Whatever little money I had saved, I gave it to my parents. I had no money to start the school. It was then that villagers came together to build bamboo huts. Each family donated bamboo, wood, and whatever little they could. The wedding was canceled, and the girl continued her education.According to Asha, children from villages have a burning desire to study and make a successful life for themselves but very rarely do these dreams come true. "There is a boy in our programme. Despite being alone, he studies, does all the housework, and looks after his younger siblings," Asha recounts. In its first six years of operation, the TheVI Educational Foundation has offered extra coaching to over 1,500 students across six schools in grades VIII, IX, and X, focusing on Maths, Science, and English. The performance in SSC board exams at these schools has dramatically improved, with over 20% of students achieving 80% and above. TheVi Educational Foundation partners with schools that serve a significant number of underprivileged students. Through a dedicated team of teachers, TheVi Educational Foundation provides additional coaching in Science, Maths, English, and communication skills for students in grades VIII, IX, and X. Students are regularly assessed, and those who show strong progress are encouraged to aim for even higher marks. Other students receive tailored coaching to help them improve their results, ensuring personal attention and focus on individual growth. Lessons are delivered by tutors selected not only for their exceptional knowledge in their subjects but also for their passion for teaching. Regular tests are conducted to monitor each student’s progress, and necessary corrective actions are implemented. Extra study materials are provided whenever needed. TheVI Educational Foundation also invites academic and professional experts from various fields to speak with students, exposing them to diverse career options and guidance on pursuing their dreams. Students who successfully pass their board exams maintain contact with the foundation for educational or career advice and any other support they may need in the future.For students advancing to Science after grade X, the VI Educational Foundation offers tutoring aimed at achieving high scores in their XII standard board exams, enabling them to qualify for various scholarships for graduate education and beyond.
