“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. About 70% of India lives in villages and gets educated in rural areas. Small rural areas pose several challenges for students due to a lack of resources and limited learning opportunities. The resource constraints impede the academic stimulation needed for the student’s overall development. In fact, many students discontinue schooling due to constraints like poverty, uneducated parents, etc. Most students need to cover long distances on foot to attend schools without any transportation facility. Especially, extreme climate situations like heavy rains, hottest summer further discourage student’s morale. This situation often demotivates them to attend school regularly.Also, Women in rural India today face the problem of getting even the basic sanitation facilities and other forms of gender-based decisions. Illiteracy is a very common problem with women [in rural areas] who carry the responsibility for family wellbeing along with child education. 
 We have multiple customized programs in order to resolve problems being faced by student in rural areas such as:1] UMED Mayech Ghar: This residential program provides educational support by providing stay and school facilities to needy students. Enablement of holistic education and helping children to realize their full potential is the primary focus of this initiative. Our journey started in 2019 with 11 students and there is a long way to go.2] UMED Study Centers: Our dedicated four study centers with professional mentors’ coaches more than 150 students.3] Dnyanjyot: We have partnered with 150 Schools from various regions of rural Maharashtra. This partnership has helped us to provide educational aid to more than 5000 needy students.4] School Advancement: UMED has established three science Laboratories in the schools operating in the remote area and the journey continues5] Women Empowerment: Menstrual Hygiene is vital to the empowerment and well-being of women and girls. It is about more than just access to sanitary pads. It is also about awareness to manage their menstruation with dignity. Lack of menstrual understanding caused school dropouts in rural areas. UMED’s Women Doctor team conducts regular awareness sessions for adolescent women. 20 Schools and 10 Villages have been covered under this initiative. 
 In order to provide stable and sustainable holistic personal/skill development &amp; education of the needy students, we have initiated ambitious residential project called “Umed Mayech Ghar”. This residential place [hostel] will help us to enable various programs such as stay for students to avoid challenges faced due to resource constraints, expansion of “Study Centers”, “School advancements” and more importantly "Women Empowerment". This place will act as command center to drive various programs benefiting thousands of students and their parents across Maharashtra.
