Hearing Impairment is an invisible disability and the scale of the problem is quite alarming. There are 10 to 15 million deaf persons in India, of which 3 million are children between 0 to 19 years of age. Secondly, the majority of deaf children are born to hearing parents who have little understanding of the issues surrounding childhood deafness such as early diagnosis and intervention, technical aids, the development of appropriate language and communication skills.In the Indian context, most parents never learn to fully communicate with their children, especially when the child is hearing impaired. This does not just give rise to learning and academic problems, it also severely impacts the social and emotional needs of the child and the family. The lack of infrastructure makes the problem worse.As per SSA data, the number of children affected with hearing impairment is significantly high in Tumkur and nearby districts A study was conducted which showed 5.8% children ie: 11,600 suffering from ear disease ref: (A STUDY OF THE PREVALENCE OF EAR DISEASES IN SCHOOL CHILDREN OF RURAL TUMKUR DISTRICT, KARNATAKA).Thus a need was felt to establish Sadhan intervention/resource centre to cater to the needs of Children With Hearing Impairment (CWHI). 
 Vaani reaches out to the deaf children and their families directly through Sadhan Center – a model, best practice demonstration center extending early intervention services for the development of deaf children and infants in developing communication, language and literacy skills and measuring their impact. SRC is a space to provide :Information on issues around childhood deafness to families of deaf children and professionals who work with deaf children.Assessment facilities for early identification of deafness in babies/children under 5 years of age.Information and appropriate support for identified deaf children.Additional educational support to school-going deaf children.A space for family members of deaf children to meet and share experiences.At present, we have a total of 10 Sadhan resource centres across Assam, West Bengal and Karnataka. 
 Over this decade, we have been able to reach around 11000 deaf children, 22000 parents, 8000 professionals and 20000 general public. Presently we have 554 children and their parents enrolled in our 10 Sadhan centers of which 107 children and their parents enrolled in our 3 Sadhan Resource Centers in Karnataka (Tumkur, Kamakshipalya and Mettipalya) who are accessing our services.Stories of Change – Shilpa and MuskanShilpa's mother says, “ I did not know how to make her understand so many things and use to beat her. Coming to the parents' meetings has helped me find a solution to my problem of communicating with my daughter”. I am really thankful to VAANI for making us understand my daughter better.Muskan,s Mother says: “After attending sessions at the Center, she confidently goes to the Anganwadi Center and communicates using signs with her friends and cousins and plays happily with all of them. She has learnt around 20 words and can write A to Z,” says the mother. She is beginning to progress from the pre-reading to the reading stage.
