"My son used to kick me when he was in my womb. Why make an issue when he kicked me in my old age?" reasons a very forgiving Shakti Dasi. The widow travelled 2300 kms from Tripura to Vrindavan after her only son violently beat her with a burning plank of wood and broke her knee one evening. She had to leave behind the business she had built with her husband who had died a few years back. Shakti ended up on the streets of Brindavan begging for food and shelter. But when Winnie Singh of Maitri saw Shakti in a frail state in tattered clothes, she brought her to the shelter home where Shakti gets food, care and medicines. What more, with Maitri’s intervention, Shakti reconciled with her son - and daughter-in-law, and now travels home to Tripura twice a year to spend time with her grandchildren. But she is not leaving Maitri, as this has become her family.Not every elderly widow who comes to Vrindavan after being abandoned by her family gets as lucky as Shakti. Many of them often end up living a lonely life and begging to survive on the streets. Hit by drought, his children have moved to urban areas and after his wife died a few years back, he has to take care of himself. But life has been hard for Dattu, as he cannot work in the fields any longer to meet his basic needs. “I feel helpless and I have gone to bed hungry many times,” he says.That was before Manavlok came to Dattu’s rescue. Particularly usage and maintenance of sanitary complexes in theirs living areas.We carried out Sarva Shiksha Abiyan project (SSA) - Alternative and innovative education in four blocks of Thiruvarur District. 1150 nos. of Dropout children (child labour, never enrolled and Dropouts) were identified educated by involving the educational volunteers and mainstreamed in regular schools.We implemented self employment trainings through Skill development, to increase the income among the rural and urban poor people of Thiruvarur District and established individual or group business units to improve their economical standards, programme such as REDP under NABARD at Vaipoor village of Thiruvarur block for 30 nos. of unemployed women SHG members in COIR twisting and COIR mat making trade. We had established COIR production units through bank linkages .we have sanctioned a community hall valued about Rs. 10 lakhs by COIR Board Central Government of India under COIR worker welfare scheme. We had trained the Tsunami affected youth victims in skill development activities under supported of FVTRS Bangalore. “VIRTUE” has been running 4 shelters for 200 homeless orphan children, women, men and elders at Nagappattinam, Tiruvarur, Puduchery and Chennai with support of State Government. Mostly the beneficiaries are beggars, street children and women in distress. Most of them have no families. To provide shelter to the beneficiaries, Government supports its building and night food only. But the homeless people need food in the morning, midday meal, medical care, pillows, mates, bed sheets, safe drinking water, mosquito cover and counseling support. Many of them go outside in the morning and comeback in the evening for food and stay at home. They are continuing their begging in the streets, bus stands, bazaars and railway stations for their food. More than 15% of the elders met health problem and they need often medical care. Children and women are also met stomach problems, fever, headache etc. So, almost 80% people need medical kit for their minor ailments. The age group of the beneficiaries are from 15 to 70 years. Very few will go to their native occasionally and sit in the temple and come back in the evening. Some of the men addicted for narcotic drugs and they need counseling support. 
 “VIRTUE” plans to address the immediate needs of the beneficiaries. The immediate needs are; pillows, mates, bed sheets, safe drinking water and mosquito cover. 200 numbers of pillows, mates, bed sheets and mosquito covers will be purchased and will distribute to each beneficiary. Safe drinking water will be provided for a month at the home. These supports prevent from mosquitoes and illness and have nice sleep at the night hours. To keep the people with good habits weekly meetings will be organized for group counselling and recreation. A TV will be installed at each home for the recreation of the beneficiaries. 
 We wish to create the following impact:-200 (children, women, men, elders) beneficiaries will get safe sleeping in the night hours by using pillows, mosquito cover and bed sheets,-200 beneficiaries will get safe drinking water for a month,-200 beneficiaries will spent their time in the evening with recreation mood and forget their distress before sleeping,-200 beneficiaries will improve their ethical values through weekly meetings and counselling support.
