The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, and very limited access to healthcare and quality education”, says Bipin Dhane, founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Aarti (under the legal entity Vijay Foundation Trust) is an NGO based in Kadapa in southern state of Andhra Pradesh, and operates in a region steeped in poverty and locked in practices that are inherently discriminatory towards women and girls. Aarti Home started in 1992 when Sandhya, the founder of Aarti Home, found Radhika, a three-year-old who was abandoned on the streets of Kadapa after her mother was killed in what would typically be called a case of domestic abuse and dowry harassment. A few friends came together and formed Aarti home to take care of children like Radhika. Radhika and Aarti Home were the humble start to Vijay Foundation Trust, which can be best described as a silent crusade against injustice to women and children, a crusade that has got stronger over the last twenty-one years and has impacted over 100,000 women and children across the district. Over the years Aarti has started Aarti Home, Aarti School, Aarti Education, Lalitha Women's Centre and Lalitha Advocacy under the aegis of Vijay Foundation Trust. In addition, Aarti has built tremendous external linkages with governmental and non- governmental agencies across the world to bring funds, focus and awareness for the issue of the girl child.Aarti works to better the cause of the girl child in particular and as a result the community in general. Aarti for Girls, under the legal entity Vijay Foundation Trust (Assn), started as a home for abandoned girls in1992, and has since grown into an umbrella organisation that works for the rights of girls and fight for gender equality. It has many components all of which are constantly growing and changing to adapt to the needs of our girls and community. Aarti for Girls also runs Aarti English Medium School for needy children who cannot afford fees 
 Aarti for Girls providing shelter, food, education, cloths, health care to the children of Aarti.Aarti English Medium School provides education and transport for under-privileged. Our School was started in 2007 with mission to provide quality education at a minimum or no fee to the underprivileged children along with our Aarti children. Aarti School is progressing with 600+ students from Nursery to X class with 24+ qualified and experienced teachers. Our library has good collection of books, mostly donated by our volunteers from India and Abroad. 
 The heart of Aarti for Girls is our village, consists of 120 number of children who call it home. We strive to provide all of the children with a community to belong in and an environment that supports their education and growth. Each of the children live in family based houses, including 15 children and a house mother. These house mothers have all been girls at Aarti and provide a source of guidance and comfort for their younger sisters, who in turn form support networks for one another. We envision Aarti Village as being a close community where women and children in difficult circumstances can prosper and find meaningful relationships.

Over 61% of children with disabilities aged between 5–19 years attend some educational institution (UNESCO, <a href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/1034912X.2021.1917525#" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">2019</a>) in India. However, there is very little understanding of the challenges they face and interventions needed to support them and help improve learning outcomes. Rural India typically gives less importance to the nutritional value of the food given to the children, more so in case of girls. Such malnutrition reflects as slow learners in the children when they are at school. A child can be described as a slow learner if his or her thinking skills develop at a notably slower rate than that of his or her peers. The child will carry on through the exact same developmental stages as his or her peers but at a comparatively slow rate. Also, the child typically has below-average intelligence. Typical characteristics reflect in aspects like - <ul><li>Slow learners tend to learn slower </li><li>The social behavioural pattern of slow-learning children is mostly immature and unstable</li><li>Identification of sounds is difficult for slow learners</li><li>Slow learners with visual-motor issues prefer oral learning over visual learning</li><li>Children who are slow learners find it hard to express themselves verbally and cannot articulate easily</li></ul> 
 We will <ul><li>Design interventions to identify and support slow learners and provide tools to teachers to observe children’s behaviour in normal as well as controlled environments.</li><li>Provide tools for observations of children for different environments like the playground, at home, in group situations and understand their reaction to different stimuli. </li><li>Use the observations and information to work with psychologists as well as teaching experts to implement the best possible remedial measure. Under strict physical and medical examination, the anomalies, disabilities, and handicaps can be highlighted.</li><li>Evaluation and identification of deficiencies in school achievement would be done through psychometric, scholastic, personality tests to throw light on arithmetic, reading, spelling, composition, writing, language, and comprehension.</li><li>Complement Scholastic tests and standardised intelligence tests with understanding of temperamental traits and emotional balance.</li><li>13 students per each teacher</li></ul> 
 Facilitating the learning process through different methods, like experiential learning through hands-on activities, laboratory experiments, object handling exercises, physical activities including individual as well as group games. We have seen our children compete in volleyball and athletics at a state level. All that we needed was to give them nutrition, safety and comfort. 
 COVID has brought about immense challenges for these children as school was their safe zone for food, education and support. Our teachers realised that and have reached out to 619 children to provide them books and assignments. However, we need your help in giving them food. We see their families suffering from lack of basic amenities - food to eat, soaps and even drinking water. The families are often single mother families where the mother is unable to get any work

Coronavirus will put 4 million girls at risk of child marriage in the next 2 yrsEvery year, we see many Kavyas, Lakshmis and Bibis. Aarti Home rescues the girls from abandonment, abuse, both physical and sexual and gives these children a chance to have their childhoods and have a better tomorrow 
 Over 1000 girls have found a home Aarti for Girls, our NGO partner. Aarti for Girls started in 1991 when Sandhya found Radhika, a three year old child, abandoned on the roadside after she witnessed her father killing her mother. Radhika is a brilliant young woman, who competed in national level exams and is a successful mid level professional in a Central government agency.Aarti for girls is a home for 120 children from ages of 5 to 22. The girls stay in Aarti Village, a 100% sustainable village with 9 cottages. Each child is not just given a place to stay, nutrition and education of choice but also cared for with love. Many children come from difficult circumstances and are counselled and given support physically, metally and emotionally. 
 Currently, the older children from Aarti are studying to be nurses, engineers, statisticians and teachers. Every child deserves a childhood where she can be sure of food, safety and most importantly unconditional love. We see children come from very difficult backgrounds - starved, abused, trafficked. Over the last thirty years, we tried to give the girls at risk, a childhood and a chance for a better tomorrow. COVID puts many many more children at risk.
