I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Women’s organization for Socio-Cultural Awareness (WOSCA) is a voluntary organization which was born on 20th December, 1993 with the commitment to serve the underprivileged people. It was registered under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 in the year 1993-94 and under FCRA in the year 2000. Since its inception, WOSCA is taking up need-based programs primarily in the areas of livelihood, income generation, health, child rights, environment conservation, and human resource development. Under WOSCA, 'Life-Lab' was started in 2013 as a science program for government schools. In the past five years, 'Life-Lab' project has worked with more than 250 schools across seven states with the support of fourteen corporates. At Life-Lab, we make science education fun and engaging for children by building the capacities of teachers. Our intervention has led to an increment of 42.3 % in children's science scores (in their school exams) &amp; behavioral change in 65 % of teachers to adopt Inquiry-Based Learning in classrooms. Science without the concepts of experiments is an enterprise which is likely to go completely astray into imaginary conjecture. With over 440 million school-going children in our country, teachers have a lot of bandwidth for pedagogical innovations. However, the education system in rural India suffers both because of the poor infrastructure as well as an abysmal quality of education. The question of establishing quality and altering the prejudicial practice of rote learning has plagued the Indian education sector for over two decades now. The poor quality of education amongst rural children is leading to 80 % of children to deprivation from experiential learning and 37.2 % of children drop out due to loss of interest in learning.

And imagination can be best generated through experience.”Life-Lab recognizes that Activity Based Learning has failed to percolate to low-income schools in our country. Life-Lab builds a bridge to join this critical gap by codifying and designing Do-It-Yourself (DIY) kits and models that guide teachers in low-income schools to help children gain experiences. Life-Lab is making it possible for any school to effectively apply ABL and improve science learning outcomes by providing children uniquely designed support mechanism which enables them to take charge of their own learning and gain experiences.
