Every life we save is a real person with hopes, dreams, and aspirations. When life turns them down the wrong path, we find them and bring them back. Take the case of Rudra Beddarma (name changed). When we found him, he was starving, stinking, and homeless. Noticing his terrible state, our dedicated workers took him back to our shelter home, cleaned him, fed him, and provided medical care. After his recovery, we learned that he had absconded from his family, who refused to take him back. Rudra thus became a permanent member of our family. We are happy to declare the change in Rudra's life since he joined us at Abhoy Ashram. He has a renewed zest for life and enjoys participating in the community. Although old age is finally catching up with him, he engages in yoga classes, physiotherapy sessions, and takes medication, all provided free of cost. We are immensely proud of his turnaround and newfound comfort, and look forward to caring for him all throughout his final years. Despite her age and health challenges, Shailabala actively participates in ashram activities, embodying the spirit of resilience and joy that Abhoy Mission Ashram nurtures.However, the ashram's ability to continue offering this sanctuary is in jeopardy due to the deteriorating condition of its facilities. With the monsoon season approaching, urgent repairs and reconstruction are needed to ensure a safe and secure home for Shailabala and the many others who depend on it. Field Visit Date: 16/02/2024Field Visit By: Atreyi Bhanja, associate Visit Summary:The following is an account of the Give team's highly informative visit to an Ashram where Abhoy personnel provide essential services and materials to the 20-25 beneficiaries residing there. The visit started with a conversation with the various aged persons regarding their material requirements and interactions with Abhoy staff at the distribution center of the Ashram. The beneficiaries were pleased to be at the Ashram and said they were provided with everything they needed. After a productive and fruitful conversation at the distribution center, we learned of the various services provided to beneficiaries such as nutrition, medicine, and therapy from the beneficiaries living at their Ashram. Abhoy beneficiaries live in a spacious residential campus with most teachers and staff on the ground, ready to deal with any issues straight away. Abhoy has started work on the 3rd floor of the main building with the funds allocated thus far. The funds raised so far through the campaign have been used efficiently as planned. Unfortunately, it has slowed recently due to a lack of funds to finish the job. Discussion with the NGO's finance team reveals transparent and efficient bookkeeping. Abhoy mission has managed to do incredible work in helping uplift the lives of the aged and mentally ill. Their beneficiaries are well taken care of, and their personnel are dedicated. The Give Team was honored to meet and discuss with the staff about their time working at Abhoy's ashram and how they manage their tough workload. The future looks bright for Abhoy and its wards. However, they need additional support to finish construction on the third floor of the main building and extend their reach even further. Help them achieve their dream and donate liberally now.
