For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. “What will happen to them after me? I am 80+. I spend sleepless nights,” worries ex-Air Force officer, Group Captain AC Barua while talking about the future of the 28 destitute women under his care. “They have nobody in this world, sometimes they don’t remember their own names. They are absolutely alone,” he informs us as he goes from one room to the other meeting all the women who live at Seneh, the only home where they are loved and taken care of. After fighting for his country all his life, this octogenarian is now fighting to rescue homeless and abandoned women from dying on the streets. But he cannot do it alone. “Everyday I keep on getting calls from here and there. ‘Oh! there’s a woman lying here. Can you help?’ But I don’t dare to go and help because I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources, our resources are very limited,” explains Gr. Capt. Many times these are women with mental health conditions and considered being a witch due to superstitious beliefs and beaten up as a result. They are victims of domestic abuse or widow mothers who are considered to be a burden on the family. Group Captain Barua has not only rescued them from critical conditions, he has provided them with urgent medical care, food and above all, a free safe shelter where they can live with love and care. Among these residents is Sarala Kalita who fled to save herself from the tortures of her alcoholic husband only to face neglect and trauma from her brothers- and sisters-in-law. “Both my brothers and their wives urged my father to leave me somewhere as they didn’t want to take care of me anymore. One day my brother’s wife didn’t even let me have food at home. She just wanted me to leave and go away. So that’s why, my father got in touch with Seneh through someone, and handed me over to Sir to take care of me,” says Sarita who has found joy in living at Seneh. “Coming to Seneh, it felt like I got a new life altogether. Sir has given me a harmonium. I love singing. It makes me forget everything and takes me to someplace else entirely,” she adds. More women like Sarala can find their way to a loving home like Seneh. All they need is a little bit of your kindness. “It is difficult to make both ends meet”To sustain their daily expenditure, Capt Barua needs approx ₹3 lakh a month and arranging the funds is a mammoth challenge for the NGO. “Our expenses are growing day by day. Residents are growing older, their sicknesses are increasing. At times we have to give them special food. They require more care so we have to get more employees. About half of them require leading around, 1-2 has to be fed also. Bengaluru is home to millions of migrant labours in India. As per WHO reports, India had witnessed the largest lockdown in the world. Lakhs of migrant families were forced to encounter the hardest time of survival and livelihood. They are still facing. They are the most affected and vulnerable community during this Pandemic crisis. They have lost livelihood, jobs and sustainability. Many families have lost the breadwinners in the family resulting in multiple hardships. Since many companies, factories and workspaces shut down, Indian migrants were forced into unpredictable situations. They had to deal with the loss of income, food shortages and uncertainty about their future. This resulted in a sharp rise in unemployment, starvation, exodus to hometowns and villages etc.Unprepared and unable to cope with the situation, they faced assault, harassment and lack of timely medical care. Many of them, if not all, come from lower castes and hence encounter caste slurs. The efforts of the Central Government, State Governments, hundreds of NGOs etc. strive for their best support to our nation. But still, the need is so great. In order to bring stability and sustainability to these vulnerable communities, CIM Trust engages in the free distribution of COVID Ration Kit to 250 migrant families in Bengaluru.  
 In order to bring sustainability to these migrant families, CIM Trust planned to distribute a FREE COVID Ration Kit to 250 families for three months (Staring from April or May 2022). Approximately every kit would cost around Rs. 2000/- which will be sufficient to feed a family of four for a month. Our Trust has identified three locations, namely: Abbigere Village, Katha Nagar and Laxmipura Cross. With the help of our committed staff and volunteers, we would like to support these families in times of crisis. Meanwhile, we plan to provide skill development training and workshops for their socio-economic empowerment. Because in the proposed target area, many youths, women and adolescent girls are jobless due to a lack of skills and capacity. Since they engage in meagre jobs the earned income is inadequate to meet the daily needs of the family. Therefore, this kit will be a great help and support to these marginalized families. We sincerely urge you to join us in this fight against COVID and help the vulnerable communities survive in these hardest times. 
 In the proposed target area, this project will ensure their survival and give hope to face the future. It aims to make an impact on at least a thousand members belonging to the disadvantaged in our society. This project will help hundreds of women and children overcome psychosocial issues and the daily challenges of multiple hardships. It helps to create a secure and nurturing family. Through this venture, we can create, establish and maintain a sustainable program of improved care for their families, particularly their children.The vision of the organization envisions a permanent systemic change within the migrant families. It will enable children and youth to develop their potential and considerable opportunity for holistic growth. It envisages each member in this target group will achieve their maximum potential and become productive and fruitful members of society.

PROVIDE COVID RATION KIT TO 250 MIGRANT FAMILIES IN INDIA (SAMRUDHI KIT)

Many children studying in the Government schools have eye sight issues but without realizing it until it becomes a serious issue of deteriorating one’s own eye sight. Parents are also not very keen on healthcare of their children due to financial constraints. Malnutrition, negligence and ignorance of such serious problems push these disadvantaged children to vulnerable conditions. According to the eye specialists, early detection of eye related problems can prevent losing the eye sight of the patient. Hence, CIM Trust organizes periodical eye checkup camps in the Government schools to ensure proper basic healthcare facilities delivered to underprivileged children.   
 We have started an initiative to organize periodical eye checkup camps in Govt. Schools to help many poor students to identify that they do have eye sight problem. Many of them cannot even see the black board properly but still they continue their studies with poor quality of eye sight. This also effects their academic performance. Therefore, helping these children to undergo proper eye checkup under medical experts with latest computerized testing. These camps have benefited many.  
 In association with Super Speciality Eye Hospital, we could conduct eye checkup camps in the Govt. schools. It has benefited more than 200 underprivileged children. Through the implementation of this project, we would like reach at least 1000 more children.

Trees play a critical role for people and the planet. Many researches have demonstrated that the presence of trees can improve people’s mental and physical health. But the present scenario of Bengaluru reveals that climate change and environmental degradation are the realities of our time. It affects every one of us. Deforestation and rapid growth of urbanization fuels more to this problem. Cutting of trees reduces the production of fresh air (oxygen) to breath.  Climate change is driving number of extreme climatic disasters and causing ocean levels to rise. The challenges that the urban population faces is to provide people with green spaces and to plant, maintain, and protect trees. Trees are essential for healthy communities and people. Hence, CIM Trust’s “GO GREEN Initiative” by planting trees is an attempt to create green space for people and the planet.  Planting trees are vital importance for the sustainable development. 
 Our slogan is “Each One Plant One Tree”. Planting trees will increase in the production of fresh air (oxygen). It enables the earth to revive its strength and energy for the sustainability of entire ecosystem. Care for creation must not be seen with selfish motive as ‘I need to protect mother earth for my survival’ rather it is the duty and responsibility of every person as stewards of creation. Bengaluru is known as “Garden City” with plenty of trees. But now the presence of trees is reducing. In order to plant, maintain and protect trees, we will be freely distributing plants with some manure and fertilizers to 15-20 schools/colleges in the city. Approximately, 100 to 150 plants will be distributed to the students in each of these schools/colleges. By planting a tree, the students will develop sense of stewardship, accountability and protect the plant that they have planted in their vicinity. Our target is to plant at least 2500 trees within Sep-Dec 2022. 
 Trees improve people’s mental and physical health. It provides quality air for breathing. Poor quality of air increases in cardiovascular and respiratory deaths. Thus, having more trees, especially the right mature species planted in the right locations, can reduce particulate matter and other forms of air pollution, which could reduce mortality. Presence of trees reduces negative thoughts, reduced symptoms of depression, and better reported moods. Trees not only make people happier and healthier, but they make communities more livable. Trees help children to increase cognitive development and to reduce symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). One of the most important benefits for human health that trees can provide is the interception and reduction of air pollution. By implementing “Go GREEN Initiative” through Tree Plantation Drive we will be able to plant 2500 plants and take care of them.
