“They insert a candle in the vagina, fingers are inserted (in the vagina) and tortured, and if children don’t relent even then, they put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. “What will happen to them after me? I am 80+. I spend sleepless nights,” worries ex-Air Force officer, Group Captain AC Barua while talking about the future of the 28 destitute women under his care. “They have nobody in this world, sometimes they don’t remember their own names. They are absolutely alone,” he informs us as he goes from one room to the other meeting all the women who live at Seneh, the only home where they are loved and taken care of. After fighting for his country all his life, this octogenarian is now fighting to rescue homeless and abandoned women from dying on the streets. But he cannot do it alone. “Everyday I keep on getting calls from here and there. ‘Oh! there’s a woman lying here. Can you help?’ But I don’t dare to go and help because I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources, our resources are very limited,” explains Gr. Capt. Barua who is lovingly called ‘Sir’ and ‘Deuta’ (father in Assamese) by the residents of Seneh. With your help, 80-year-old Group Captain Barua can fulfill his mission of rescuing abandoned and homeless women from dying on the streets, alone. Many times these are women with mental health conditions and considered being a witch due to superstitious beliefs and beaten up as a result. They are victims of domestic abuse or widow mothers who are considered to be a burden on the family. Group Captain Barua has not only rescued them from critical conditions, he has provided them with urgent medical care, food and above all, a free safe shelter where they can live with love and care. Among these residents is Sarala Kalita who fled to save herself from the tortures of her alcoholic husband only to face neglect and trauma from her brothers- and sisters-in-law. “Both my brothers and their wives urged my father to leave me somewhere as they didn’t want to take care of me anymore. One day my brother’s wife didn’t even let me have food at home. She just wanted me to leave and go away. So that’s why, my father got in touch with Seneh through someone, and handed me over to Sir to take care of me,” says Sarita who has found joy in living at Seneh. “Coming to Seneh, it felt like I got a new life altogether. Sir has given me a harmonium. I love singing. It makes me forget everything and takes me to someplace else entirely,” she adds. More women like Sarala can find their way to a loving home like Seneh. All they need is a little bit of your kindness. “It is difficult to make both ends meet”To sustain their daily expenditure, Capt Barua needs approx ₹3 lakh a month and arranging the funds is a mammoth challenge for the NGO. “Our expenses are growing day by day. Residents are growing older, their sicknesses are increasing. At times we have to give them special food. They require more care so we have to get more employees. About half of them require leading around, 1-2 has to be fed also. It will be very difficult to sustain it unless we get help,” he added. One act of your kindness can save these abandoned women, with no one in this world, from struggling on the streets to survive. Despite a plethora of well-designed welfare schemes from the Government and large presence of government functionaries at all levels, the benefits of the schemes do not reach the vulnerable families. The reasons of these are many: ignorance, lack of information / awareness, illiteracy, lack of guidance, errors of exclusion and inclusion of beneficiaries, corruption, middle men, vested interests, lack of enforcement of legislative provisions etc. At implementation levels, government officials are also not popularizing these schemes due to various practical reasons. 
 Our solution is identification, training and placing a cadre of ‘Samaj Shilpis (SS) in rural villages’. These Samaj Shilpis will help the target families to access social entitlements, financial services and other schemes from the Government. Samaj Shilpis will use Drishtee’s ‘Soochana Aapke Dwaar’ (SAD), a multi-lingual, web-based repository of all schemes with detailed procedures and documentation requirements to facilitate the process.Each Samaj Shilpi will:- Spread awareness about the various schemes and generate demand from members in the target community - Deploy ‘SAD’ web application to determine eligibility, match the schemes and the members- Facilitate linkages by preparing applications, collecting required documents and supporting submission of the application at respective offices/ departments 
 Here is the math for 1 unit (10 Samaj Shilpis) that could be replicated across various locations. - 10: Select, train &amp; place 10 Samaj Shilpis- 10,000: One Samaj Shilpi will cater to 1000 families, reaching a total of 10,000 members- 3,00,00,000: We anticipate the members would receive Rs. 3 crores worth of social benefits from various government schemes &amp; services in one year- 1:30 as value of social benefits. It is calculated that every rupee invested in the member will lead to realization of Rs. 30 worth of social benefits by beneficiary

Women are the key driver for the economic and social development of any country. Despite this, Indian women still lag behind in terms of access to education, healthcare, financial services also they have a very low economic and political participation in the country. The initiative like Jan dhan yojna has sharp increase in women financial inclusion from 48% in 2014 to 61% in 2015 but still 39 % of women need solutions beyond one-size-fits-all, with access to other financial services like credit and insurance.These initiative are appreciated to provide the platform for the marginal community to be part of financial inclusion, however, there is a need to design and develop a solution which connects rural women with financial services and also provide them with the opportunity to effectively contribute to family income and economic growth of the country. 
 Drsithee suggests an approach to bridge access gap among the marginalized rural women for skills, financial capacity and opportunities and also facilitate their journey towards becoming successful entrepreneurs and contributors of social and economic well being of their family as well as society. Drsithee will identify Villages; •With high numbers of marginalized women community•In cluster for sustainability of enterprises•Where community shows some readiness to organize itself and co-own their developmentThe project focuses on creating community led and managed financial inclusion ecosystem that will offer sustainable economic and social solutions for marginalized rural womenThe specific objectives of the program for a period of 3 years are:• Create a community-led and managed financial inclusion ecosystem with the help of various stakeholders and agencies • Enhance access to financial services like bank account, insurance and credit to rural women • Create women entrepreneur (especially vulnerable women like widow, divorcee and abandon women )for effective utilization of financial services to the most needy • Develop a network of financially included women and women entrepreneur to bring more women to be part of this initiative by creating a ripple effect in the community. 
 The expected outcome and impact of the proposed program over 3 years is: • Formation of 15 – 20 village community organisations (representative collectives) spanning 65 villages improve their merit to pull in more reduces for basic as well as economic development•15-20 financial service providers (rural women) will, provide this access to more than 25,000 villagers(100 villages) ensuring each and every woman to have individual bank accounts, insurance, transactions and credit facility• Skilling or capacity building of 1000 women from these villages on need-based skill sets will help them establish and manage enterprises• More than 100 women entrepreneur and service provider will be created. Out of 100, 30 to 40% would be widows and rest would be marginal women. These women will have an enhanced earning of approx Rs 3000 to 6000 monthly• A network of more than 500 women will be created to advocate this initiative with larger community
