“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. While Lalitha has also helped many women escape the clutches of being forced into sex work, the SPID is focused on rescuing children and giving them a better life.Sadly, many more children need to be rescued and need a loving home. India having 26.8 million people with disabilities (census 2011) which is 2.21% of the total population with a gender ratio of 56% male and 44% female. 12 percent of disability are among children aged 0-9 years, one in every 100 children in this age group has some form of disability, only 61% children aged 5-19 attending educational institutions whereas only 43% girls attend schools/colleges. 36% of the total disabled persons are engaged in some form of employment. National Sample Survey 2018 report indicates that around 23.6% had received social security aid/help (21.8% by the government and 1.8% from other sources.The enforcement of RPWD Act 2016 ensures every citizen of India who is categorized under any of the 21 types of disabilities are eligible to access social schemes, however, implementation of these schemes and services remains a significant challenge. The reasons are several, ineffective coordination between government departments, the convergence of healthcare, rehabilitation services, poor allocation of budget resources, accessibility, and many more. On the other hand, people with disabilities are not aware and do not have enough knowledge of those social schemes/services and mechanisms for accessing.  
 Persons with Disabilities lead an empowered life through participation in the family and community. In line with SDG 2030 goals “Leave No One Behind” the unequivocal commitment to eradicate poverty in all its forms, end discrimination and exclusion. To the extent that disability is both a cause and a consequence of poverty and bringing disabled people into the mainstream is critical. Despite India’s Right of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 in place, lack of awareness both for people with disabilities and for the duty bearers, accessibility and traditional stereotypes decisions continue to pause major hurdles for inclusive development. Radical methods and approaches are the need of the hour to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. The key action is facilitating to access social entitlements by people with disabilities by themselves sustainable inclusion. Besides support to voice for their rights, one need to identify people with disabilities social, economic needs, link them to access mainstream services such as education, skill building, job placements, income generation, entrepreneurship, community mobilisation and organization of Disability People Groups (DPOs) , sensitizing and involving civil body members and collaboration with front-line health care workers. 
 4000 Persons with Disabilities lead an empowered life through participation in the family and community.The project will organize a need base assessment of people with disabilities in 231 villages in the beginning to measure their socio-economic situation and to understand the consequences of disability and its effects on poverty. The following approaches are selected to achieve the impact;Formation and capacity building of DPOs (12 DPOs with 120-150 members), on the provisions of RPWD Act and will be engaged as change agents in their communities and 4 DPOs start group enterprise-based empowerment models.Facilitate people with Disabilities to access public services - at least 300 of people with disabilities will receive new disability certificates. 30 women and youths receive skill building, 90 people with disabilities receive socio-economic support for income generation, 75 children with disabilities enrolled for formal /special education, 225 people with disabilities receive basic rehabilitation services including assistive devices, intervention therapies and medical care/Advocacy meetings among grass-root duty bearers, local civic body leaders and government officials will be organized to sensitize for the enforcement of RPWD Act, on accessibility India campaign besides 100 grass-root health workers will be sensitized on early disability identification, milestone developments

Inclusive Development

Balu Priya* lives in Nalgonda, Telangana, affected by leprosy and alsosuffers from anemia and arthritis. Balu needs 10 more months to complete her treatment. This 29-year-old woman has been struggling to keep her family afloat during the challenging pandemic times as her husband has undergone an angioplasty recently. Now, with two ailing people at home, Balu’s monthly budget for medicines alone has been raised to Rs. 4,000. Besides, during this lockdown, the family is on the verge of starvation with no source of income. To sustain, with a young child to feed, the family requires an additional amount of Rs.3,000 to bear the food expenses 
 With no income support, Balu’s family is in dire need of Rs.7,000 to tide over the monthly expenses of medicines and food and for a year they require an amount of Rs. 84,000. (plus admin expenses) Balu’s husband was a daily wage worker and the only breadwinner of the family. As he is on bedrest, this family is in urgent need of financial support for medication, education of their only child and food to survive.
