“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. While Lalitha has also helped many women escape the clutches of being forced into sex work, the SPID is focused on rescuing children and giving them a better life.Sadly, many more children need to be rescued and need a loving home. Non-formal skill-training / on-the-job skill training is being implemented from 2018 onwards in Chennai and Kanchipuram districts. School dropouts and uneducated youth, both boys and girls, mainly from slum and rural areas in Chennai and Kanchipuram districts will be selected depending on their aptitude, and shall be engaged in establishments like building units, electrical units, plumbing units, welding and fabrication firms, electronic firms, garment makers, auto/two-wheeler mechanics shops, printing press, garland making, chock works, tailoring and embroidery shops, etc. During the training period, HUT shall pay them a stipend of Rs. 500/- every month and the training establishment pays them Rs.2000/- per month to meet the travelling expenses and food expenses. After completing this training period, generally the training establishment itself absorbs the candidate or they get employment elsewhere. About 100 children/women shall be trained in Chennai and Kanchipuram Districts every year. 
 The project caters to the needs of children / women hailing from the poorest of the poor communities residing in Chennai slums and in the neighboring villages of Kanchipuram. Due to the ever-increasing opportunities for work, rural folks migrate to the city in search of menial jobs, thereby landing up in slums without any basic facilities. In addition, some rural folks stay back in their remote villages doing odd jobs. HUT, having observed this condition in both urban and rural set-ups, aims to train the children and women in various non-formal vocational skills so that they may become useful and contributing members in the society. These children/women are encouraged to join the skill training programs so that they may be able to tap their potentials and capabilities and do not wander off and become a part of the unskilled workforce of the nation. The target group is the poor and needy young ones in the age group of 18 to 30 years, transgenders and differently-challenged. In total, about 210 poor and needy people from the young generation will be benefited every year. 
 1.	Trained children /women become employable.2.	The trainees are encouraged to become contributing members of the project, so that they may be instrumental in identifying children fit for training. The trainees would also be encouraged to start their own enterprises so that they may in turn provide training to other children/women at risk.3.	Planning of a get-together of employers is also one of the impacts proposed.The employers would be encouraged to take part in the yearly present/ex-trainees meet. 4.	Providing the employers with certificates of recognition to show appreciation for their contribution. 5.	Formation of a forum of various skill trainers, so that the trainees and the trainers would be able to learn about the best practices involved in the industry at large.
