For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. “The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. ABOUT THE CHIEF FUNCTIONARY:The chief functionary of the organization is Mr.B.Nageswara Rao. He is a postgraduate in English (Lit) from Andhra University. Right from school education to college he actively participated in several social movements and events. As an N.C.C. cadet in high school &amp; college. He participated in a number of sramadana programmes in remote villages of East Godavari District and West Godavari District. In the year 1977 as a volunteer, he participated in the relief work of Diviseema at Krishna District. In the year 1996 when the cyclone devastated tallarevu Mandal he and participated in relief work.Recently (i.e.,) in August 2000 when the villages in Kolleru lake in West Godavari were denudated he joined with the relief team of OXFAM. A hectic survey of the most affected people was conducted in 20 villages of Kolleru and identified 1400 families, which effected severely by floods. An emergency relief worth 4.5 lakhs was distributed in the form of Rice, Dal, Oil and blankets.He firmly believes that education is instrumental in bringing the development of society. So the year 1974 he started a primary school in English medium in Rajahmundry. Now it has become a high school. For the last 25 years, it rendered service to thousands of students.His thirst for service does not end with educating children. He feels that there are many people deprived of basic amenities like food, clothing and sanitation. More than the people needs awareness. The position of women is more distressing. Thinking of the downtrodden he along with some other like-minded people floated a society called “JANAKALYAN”.During the year 1996, the cyclonic winds devastated the coastal areas of E.G. District and West Godavari District in places like Masanithippa and Balusuthippa the death toll is very high. “JANAKALYAN” provided relief to the victims. OUR VISION:Our vision is to create a just society based on values through a process of education and organization of the people with basic relief in and respect for the intrinsic worth of men and women with a clear option for the poor and the depressed.LEGAL STATUS:<ul><li>JANAKALYAN’ is a society registered under the Society Registration Act of XXI of 1960. <ol><li>East Godavari district is one of the HIV infected and high-risk population having a risk rate of 1.5%. East Godavari District stands in the first 4 high HIV prevalence districts in the state. East Godavari district is having a high HIV incidence among women who have attended Antenatal clinics. The rate of incidence is comparatively high in rural areas than in urban areas. Rampant Migration in population due to drought-prone climatic conditions, a large amount of area located beside highway, increased number of CSWs population, abuse and exploitation in processing units are the factors for reporting high incidence in the district. As per a survey, there are 2000 infected and effectuated children in the district.</li><li>On the other hand, poor Service accessibility conditions, poor facilities in I CT centers, limited care and support centers are also contributing factors for the increase in incidence. </li></ol> 
 JKWS (Janakalyan welfare Society) is for a long time working with Sex -workers of our area and HIV affected and infected children of our target area. JKWS provide home-based care (i.e.,) counselling, regular medical checkups and nutritional support for the infected and affected children. Every month JKWS conducts counselling cams for the children where a volunteer doctor provides medical check-up and provides free medicines. Counselling will be provided to the children to the mothers and caregivers of the children on the nutritional values of each food item and about the low-cost foods that will keep their health in good condition. 
 The counselling sessions provide a behavioural change to the infected and affected children and their caregivers. They will go for the no cost and low-cost foods that will provide health to the children. Regular medical check-ups monitor their health status and keep them healthy. JKWS see that the nutritional assistance will be continued without any break will make them healthy and attends school regularly. The below are the impacts of the programme of nutritional support;1) The programme helps to monitor the growth of the children affected and infected.2) The nutritional support helps in monitoring the height and weight of the child according to their height.3) It helps to improve the immunity of the child so that it helps to improve the immunity of the infected and affected children.4) It maintains the long term health and well being of the children.5) It helps against the foodborne illness and helps in developing the immunity system.
