Stray dogs and other animals on the streets live a life of acute deprivation. The most painful part is the manner in which they meet their end–lonely and helpless. While some may sustain grave injuries after being run over by vehicles, others are at the risk of starvation and illness. Often, people ignore their plight as they are strays. But not Sudha Narayanan. It’s been almost a decade since Sudha decided to set up a hospital and shelter home for stray dogs and other animals. Sudha’s NGO Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre (CARE), since its inception in 2013, has saved the lives of thousands of stray animals with urgent trauma care and medical help. Sudha has shouldered a significant amount of the cost of treatment for these animals for a decade. The NGO’s rescue helpline receives numerous calls throughout the day. CARE’s team brings the rescued animals to its trauma care centre, where the sick and the injured are admitted and taken care of. With the help of proper medical care the animals are nursed back to health. The animals who are no longer fit to survive on their own due to serious injuries are kept in the NGO’s shelter home which is currently home to over 150 stray animals including dogs, cats, birds etc. The struggle to stay afloatWith their rescue helplines ringing off the hook and the number of helpless animals increasing with each passing day, CARE is finding it difficult to keep going. “The number of animals we save and shelter are increasing continuously. And if we don't get the support we require, unfortunately these animals will also be left without anybody to look after them. We need a huge amount of money for critical care medicines, for animal care items and for the essential food needed for the sick and injured animals. Most families are surviving on just rice and salt which is provided by the government. The organization exists from year 2002 and is working in Raigarh district since inception. It envisions bringing livelihood enhancement of target families through sustainable utilization of existing land, water and forest resources. It is to be catalyzed by value chain development, knowledge up- gradation, and credit access. JanMitram facilitates its beneficiaries to avail better access to the inputs and services either directly or through networking and convergence. Community participation in this process is organized through proven tool of SHGs and aggregating them into sustainable federations.Economic development makes no sense if it’s not coupled better health and living conditions. JanMitram intervenes in community health and tries to ensure better hygiene and sanitation in village localities and ensure vaccination and nutritional intake. This is again, done with help of peer who stand from community itself.Skill development and employment generation is third major issue JanMitram deals with. Its target group i.e. unskilled labor and semi-educated youth are taken for skill acquiring, skill enhancement and entrepreneurship development training and they are supported with post training follow-up with technical and financial and managerial perspective of their business.

Tribal have traditionally lived near the forests and their livelihoods have been dependent on forests, horticulture and agriculture. gradually forest resources have diminished and fruit orchard and agriculture have given less returns. scientific studies have shown that wild bee and other tiny pollinating insects have dropped in numbers and it has resulted in less pollination. this have reduced yield of many forest products. JanMitram have tried bee keeping with tribal community, at a small scale. this has added income directly through sale of honey, but have given a great impetus to fruiting in farms, orchards and wild. scientific experiments and field experience have shown that this one activity has manifold results benefiting people, environment and economics. 
 We have selected few villages those are near to natural forests and tribal inhabitants are having fruit orchards. we intend to distribute honey bee hives, rearing boxes, honey collection equipment and other accessory material for first cycle of production.initially 80 honey production boxes shall be distributed to setup 16 honey production units. 16 farmers in four villages will setup this unit with 5 boxes each. training and capacity building of tribal farmers along with the processes of honey extraction, storage and value addition. packaging and marketing arrangements shall be provided. organisation have existing networks of farmers cooperative in these areas, so scaling up activity shall follow with credit support. new farmers shall be added in due course of time and scaling up previous farmers hall be done with additional income derived from previous production cycle. 
 <ol><li>Direct benefit of honey bee keeping shall add-up Rs 20,000 with five boxes in each family. Whole investment from this project shall provide additional income of Rs 3.20 Lakh Rs per annum, for the first year. it is expected that two-three times of this shall increase in every successive year. </li><li>fruit production in these villages is expected to be doubled in every village. selected villages have over 100 Acre fruit orchard in each village, developed by JanMitram in recent years. total fruit yield in Approx 15 lakh per annum, that shall go up to 30 lakh per annum </li><li>nearby forest shall get benefit of bee pollination increasing yield of forest products i.e. mahua, Dhavai, harra, baheda, gum, lac, sal seed, bamboo etc shall increase substantially. </li><li>plant bio-diversity shall be restored and forest shall become dense. environmental and aesthetic value of this can not be measured in therms of monetary benefits. </li></ol>
