Kajla Janakalyan Samity (KJKS), is a non-government organization based in Purba (East) Medinipur district of West Bengal State. Kajla Janakalyan Samity owes its evolution to a local club named “Milita Bandhab” of the village Kajla dating back to 1943, prior to India’s Independence. A group of enthusiastic youths had then come forward to form the club and worked towards helping serious patients of the community access available health services which were far, solved different village issues, organized sports & cultural activities apart from educational programs (non-formal education & Coaching). In this backdrop, Kajla Jana Kalyan Samity (KJKS) took the shape in 1945. During the period 1945-90, KJKS carried out cultural programmes, created infrastructure in the area such as road, post-office, School library, Co- operative society and even the Tele-communication facility and electricity for domestic consumptions were arranged. From 1990 onwards, a change in the perspective and thought process was observed in the perspective of globalization, new economic policy, structural adjustment affecting the rural people. So instead of concentrating on mere welfare activities, the organization started emphasizing on Integrated Sustainable Development Approach by motivating different stakeholders, developing awareness and ensuring children’s and people’s entitlements. KJKS has been working in the area of Holistic Child Rights with special emphasis on Quality Education through its own Model Schools as well as some Model Govt. Primary Schools, Health, Livelihood and food security, collaborating with and strengthening govt. and community mechanism for ensuring protection of children in need of care and protection, Disaster Risk Reduction, Gender Equity and Women’s Empowerment.
