I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. For 11-year-old Ravi (name changed) a normal day would start before the sun rose and involved carrying heavy loads up a narrow staircase, in a ramshackle building filled with clouds of toxic smoke. The tribal community is one of the most neglected communities in the state of Odisha. The literacy rate among the community is one of the lowest in the state. The low literacy rate leads to low employment rate, which leaves the tribal people in abject poverty. It hence becomes crucial that the community's children receive good education, so that they can have a chance at a brighter, better future. 
 The organization has been providing free residential education and training to poor tribal students from class one to the postgraduate level. Ample facilities are provided at KISS to the children to help them build their future. The institute has  modern infrastructure and trained teachers to provide education to the children. Apart from that, we also provide nutritious food to the children, four times a day. The institute also has a 100-bed hospital to meet the health needs of the students. We place special emphasis on all-round development of these children. 
 The organization has produced many graduates from the poor tribal communities who are now well placed in different government departments and private organizations. The children under the organization's wings have also earned a name for themselves at national as well as international level.
