For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. We all are witnessed an unprecedented loss of human life around us during the second wave of the pandemic. We have received immense love and support from all over the world. However, deploying these concentrators, procuring medicines, transportation, hiring staff, doctors, nurses was a huge investment for us. We used our own funds for transportation of OCs, salary of the manpower involved etc. We need your support to overcome these huge gap in funding. 
 MUKTI successfully deployed 1700+ Oxygen Concentrators under two different projects i.e Project Breathe (HelloBeta) and Supporting Health care services in Rural West Bengal at free of cost, along with free oximeter and medicine kit.Implementation of such a huge project demands funds. We are thankful to the organization who supported us in this cause, however we end up investing our own funds to pay salaries of the staff, loading-unloading charges, transportation charges, procuring medicine kits etc.We are providing all the services at free of cost and to provide a long term solution to this, MUKTI has purchased two Ambulance which are functioning in interior parts of the West Bengal. We need your continuous support to strengthen our cause.With your donation Mukti will not cater the medical need of people residing in interiors part of all over the West Bengal by establishing our medical centers, where we will provide free medical kit, oxygen support, free health checkup and ambulance service as and when needed to the under privileged people of West Bengal. 
 One Oxygen concentrator will serve around 10 patients over the next two months at least. Along with a medical kit which consist of specific medicines for Covid-19. By this we can save many lives and help people to get the required equipment's and medicine at their doorstep. Looking forward to saving lives together.

Mukti Covid Care Unit - To support the needy people

Sundarbans, a cluster of remote villages in the southern part of West Bengal, are facing the following situations triggered by COVID-19. (i) Complete disruption of the producer-retailer-seller chain leading to widely varying prices of commodities from one location to another. This is bound to have serious repercussions with the local people, who are mostly very poor.(ii) Most of them are now jobless and even struggling for a one time meal.(ii) Village markets are kept open for about a couple of hours. This creates massive footfall. Consequently, social distancing is not maintained. (iii) The twin tragedy of Covid &amp; Amphan completely devastated life of the local people. The damaged due to cyclone expected to be around 95% in Sundarbans. 
 As a response, MCS has been envisaged and activated as a pilot project to mitigate these adverse effects in the following manner. i) Delivering food and essential items door to door. Only those wearing masks are entertained. ii) Operating as a zero-margin model - selling and buying price are same. Price of items are pre-decided by members of the local village community to ensure fairness.  iii) Allowing transaction in kind. This innovative feature facilitates exchange of surplus items which can be part of home yield (farm products or poultry) with something else. iv) Employment generation for local people who have been rendered jobless because of the current scenario.v) Sale of locally produce material which will boost the confidence among people and also increase the source of livelihood for them. 
 MCS, is already in operation with 10 mobile shops/vans and is covering a geographical area housing about 7000 family. External grant support is immediately required to expand the reach of this model and sustain it over a period of time.To have a meaningful social impact over a larger region, MUKTI has set an immediate target of catering to at least 50000 families through 70 vans over the next 6 months.i) At present, MCS is covering 7000 families through 10 shopping vans. This mechanism has been put in place using MUKTI’s own resources.ii) The next immediate target is scale-up the operations and reach out to an area housing 50000 families and serve for the next 6 monthsiii) Scaling up of the operation in terms of hiring man power can be readily addressed by using MUKTI’s own resources and wide network in Sundarbans.iv) It is estimated that once the necessary financial resources are available, it would take about 2 months to scale-up the operations to 70 -80 shops &amp; leading to increase in source of income.

The existence of Sundarbans is under tremendous threat due to massive deforestation on a regular basis by human being for their livelihood. The deforested land is completely barren and not suitable for traditional cultivation. Frequent Cyclones are often impacting forest, wild life and human inhabitant. The land for agriculture is mostly single-crop and dependent on rain water at monsoon time only, which is one of the reasons of people’s poor financial condition in the Deltas. Due to deforestation, Soil erosion, Cyclone, High tide, life of human and animals are facing huge challenge at the moment. 
 MUKTI has started working on this problem and has targeted to find a solution by utilizing the barren land created by deforestation. Large scale coconut and other local varieties of plants are being planted to increase forest, mitigate fuel needs of local people and increase income of inhabitant so that human dependencies on forest can be reduced. Many places of Sundarbans also do not have any electricity; we promote alternate energy like solar power. MUKTI engages school children and local people to increase awareness on global warming, and danger of deforestation. We engage Women mostly for plantation activities. 
 MUKTI Self Help Group women are engaged in plantation like coconut and mangrove, which is generating income for local people. Impact of this project is multifold like women empowerment, reforestation in deforested land of Sundarbans, as Coconut is called the tree of life and being economic crop. As a result of this, the income of local people is increasing, proper utilization of barren land are being utilized to improve the environment and livelihood. Most of the plantation is happening at river side which is protecting soil from erosion. This civil forest is protecting cyclone and is being used for disaster recovery.

Plantation and Sustainable Agriculture

Average people of Sundarbans delta are extremely poor. Their livelihood is mostly dependent on single-crop agriculture, cutting wood from jangle, catching fish etc. Women of this delta region are even more vulnerable due to economic condition and lack of proper education. That is the reason Sundarbans is the biggest source in West Bengal for women trafficking. The women of Sundarbans need to travel a long way from their home to town for their daily work and the means of transport are neither safe nor comfortable for women. The dignity of women is compromised and they often face sexual abuse at their work place. Average education on Delta is 45% where women education rate is below 30%. Women power of Sundarbans Delta is under-utilized due to lack of lack of proper social structure and lack of enough opportunity. 
 To address this challenge in Sundarbans, MUKTI has designed a unique Self Help Group (SHG) and Micro Credit model for women. As part of this model, MUKTI provides 3 skill development training, interest free loan, and a self-governed mechanism for running the groups. The success of this model can be observed by the rapid progress of this project in last few years. Around 5000+ women joined in last 3 years in the programme where 1200+ women doing business successfully after getting training from MUKTI and receiving interest free loan. The loan repayment is almost 100% as our model is designed in such a way that each SHG group ensures the repayment of their loan. Administrative cost is also very less here, as women find their leader by selection/election method and manage the whole programme on their own. MUKTI is running 6 clusters of SHGs and wish to grow up to 10 by 2017. 
 MUKTI has now successfully created an avenue for the women force of Sundarbans. Many women leaders are now moving one step forward and leading some society development activities as well. Women from these SHG groups are now earning Rs 3000 -10000 per month. A large group of women are selling their products in various exhibitions and in towns. More than 50 women have established themselves as trainer of various businesses. Women trafficking have come down and self-respect has been restored for women who are engaged with this programme. Migration to town has been reduced significantly.
