For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. Multiple sclerosis was identified as a disability only 3-4 years ago. Awareness about this condition needs to be created to assist the patients in leading a normal life by providing quality health care in terms of medicines, caregivers and health workers. There is no insurance scheme for the MSP's , the treatment is very costly and most of the times the patients are unable to visit the hospitals at regular intervals for their injections.Multiple sclerosis patients require to invest in the following to sustain their lives:* Medicines and injections which amount for more than Rs. 10,000 a month * Physiotherapy/speech therapy* Care givers* Walking aids/ Wheelchair* Diapers/Bedpads* School fee support for the children of MS patients* Rehabilitation of family* Monthly medical support camps 
 One of the many programs offered by MSSI is about assisting the MS community involves funding support for monthly medicines, injections, physiotherapy, magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) exams. Our programs also include arranging doctor appointments for MSPs, monthly meetings with MSPs, touring them through educational videos and publications, get sponsors for safety, mobility equipment distribution, creating awareness in public through beach walk, entertainment through cultural programs, arranging doctors on a regular basis on medical modifications, research, counselling, etc.*MSP- multiple sclerosis person 
 Making the costly medicines which are necessary to stem the progression and are beyond the reach of the under previleged MSP. We want to make the impossible possible by being able to fund them for the 'interferons and betaferons' which are absolutely essential to stem the progress of MS.Many MSPs do not have the basic necessities like food, clothes and daily needs. We provide them monthly donations to meet their life requirements.Children of those affected by MS are provided with education support and bicycles for transportation.We tie up with a team of physiotherapists for house visits.Through public awareness programs, those in rural areas get to know about the society's initiatives and nearby health practitioners.

The need of the project, Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the Central Nervous System, affecting, its functioning unexpectedly and repeatedly, resulting in devastating disabilities in young people in the prime of their lives. Our bodies contain fatty substance called myelin which surrounds and protects nerve fibres of the brain of the brain and spinal cord (CNS). When any part of this myelin sheathing is destroyed , nerve impulses to the brain are interrupted and distorted. This results in sclerosed patches which are formed in the CNS, which results in Multiple Sclerosis. Symptoms may include tingling sensations, numbness, slurred speech, blurred or double vision, muscle weakness, poor coordination, unusual fatigue, muscle cramps, spasms, problems with bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction an paralysis. To overcome all these difficulties, neuro physiotherapy can play an essential role in keeping a patient active. Neuro Physiotherapy can help patients learn to cope with their changing body condition, develop strength and stamina, regain abilities after each disease flare up. Neuro Physiotherapy is often recommended when there is a specific problem or ongoing symptoms that effect day-to-day activities, mobility and independence. From the phase of diagnose to advanced level of MS, physiotherapy is needed , depends on an individual’s physical condition.

Multiple Sclerosis affects the Central Nervous system and changes the way a person’s brain “talks” to the rest of the body. About half the people who have MS have issues with cognition. Cognition refers to specific functioning of the brain; memory, concentration, attention, language – reading and writing, calculation planning etc. Cognitive impairment can lead to inability to perform their activities of daily living independently. Cognitive impairment can also lead to psychological problems among the patients like low self- esteem, exaggerated sense of cognitive loss etc. 
 Establishment of a Cognitive Lab to assist patients recover their cognitive abilities.  The aim of Cognitive therapy is to improve their cognition capacity to the fullest. It will help the MS person rehabilitate themselves, and increase their sense of responsibility both physically and mentally. In short it will improve the quality of life of an MS person and enable them to live their lives from a state of dependence to independence.

The affected body part becomes stiff or difficult to move and tends to feel very tight. This is known as ‘spasticity’.
