“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. The BackgroundNavjyoti India Foundation has been working in Yamuna Pushta since its inception in 1988. When the Yamuna Pushta Cluster was demolished in 2004 by the government for the commonwealth games, the community was rehabilitated to Bawana, North West Delhi. In early 2004, 40,000 homes were destroyed, displacing 120,000 people. Also destroyed were schools, businesses, and social service organizations which served the poor.Our Remedial Child Education Program grew out of a compelling need to break an inextricable relationship between loitering, rag-picking, begging and out-of-school street children, with criminality such as drug peddling, abuse, pickpocketing, child labor and other social evils in the Bawana Community.<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/aeb77976-b6bf-489c-931c-14cf40f28038.webp" />The ProgramThe Remedial Child Education Program aims to foster a productive learning environment to ensure continuity in schooling by reaching out to the vulnerable children of Bawana Resettlement Colony attending government schools who have little support from their parents to reinforce attending school. We provide holistic education to children of urban slums and support them through education activities to ensure they don’t drop out from mainstream education.Children's learning levels in Bawana are found to be far below the minimum expected learning levels of the grades in which they are studying. These children are enrolled in the Remedial Education Project in Grade 1 and then efforts are directed to retain them till Grade 10, continuously working on enhancing their learning and bridging the gap that exists between the minimum expected and the present levels.<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/d05ef1bc-5fd6-4baf-9c3e-bdf1c342720d.webp" />We accommodate more than 1500 children across Grades 1-10. These children are not only taught mainstream subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Science, but we also cater to extracurricular activities, such as music, art, coding, digital literacy, and more. We begin talent mapping from Grade 6th so that by the time our students reach Grade 12, they know exactly what they want to do.Bawana has more than 18,000 children below the age of 18 and to address to this need we have developed a Bal Gurukul Model in which we identify 700-800 highly energetic children each year who go and teach other children of the community at their homes.<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/2ddd520c-c53c-403d-b4ae-1ecc2872128f.webp" />Our Key Goals1 -Quality of education<ul><li>Less than 2% of children who enroll in Navjyoti India Foundation Remedial Education Program drop out from school as against the high national dropout data.</li><li>Teacher student ratio is 1:25</li><li>Overall repetition rate is 1.9% only. Majority of the students are found to be repeating class IX (4%) and X (4%). The main reason for repetition is failing in class IX and X and unable to appear in exam or age factor in primary classes.</li></ul>2- Equitable access to education<ul><li>More than 85% of children progress to higher education after completing class X from Navjyoti India Foundation's Remedial Education Project</li><li>All the children have a learning center within 500 meters of their homes</li></ul>3 - Skills and training enhancement<ul><li>As against the national average of 25% of Grade 3 children at par with their grade level, 56% boys and 75% girls are found at par with grade 3 scoring more than 45% in their government school exam.</li><li>As against the national average of 50% children in Grade 5 who can read and write, 77.5% boys and 88.6% girls can read and write in Navjyoti India Foundation Grade 5th</li></ul>4 - Improved family and health status-<ul><li>14.5% boys and 10.5% girls are found to be below the expected weight at their respective age. Majority of the children have satisfactory weight owing to awareness being generated among children and parents on healthy eating, hygiene habits.</li><li>Around 4% of children have been diagnosed with eye problems and have been provided with spectacles.</li><li>1.09% are vulnerable cases requiring long term treatment</li><li>More than 100 out of school children being mainstreamed every year by Gurukul children</li></ul>5 - Greater Income opportunities-<ul><li>Alumni are working in top companies like Cognizant, Hero Fin Corp and Transguard (Dubai)</li><li>Alumni pursuing their passion under the arts have opened their own academies</li></ul>

Through this project, we intend to help widows rediscover the spirit in their lives. We wish to make them realize that their happiness, well-being, and dignity are eternal. FACTS:<ol><li>India has the largest recorded number of widows in the world i.e. 33 million.</li><li>Gurugram district has about 25,000 widows. Lack of property and income have rendered their lives insecure and in some cases that of their children.</li><li>Insufficient awareness about government schemes and lack of skills results in their dependency on their families.</li></ol> 
 What do we wish to do?1. To disseminate awareness about the Government schemes to widows &amp; help them avail the benefits of such schemes.2. To convey the importance of skill-building to the widows.3. To develop consciousness among people to treat the widows with dignity.How will we do it?Step-1Project Jeeva: Our Approach Assessing the needs of the widows’:(i) Mapping the needs and problems(ii) Conducting surveys and meeting(iii) Identifying challenges and barriers in availing the schemes and skillsStep-2Helping them overcome these barriers by:(i) Spreading awareness about schemes and skills.(ii) Arranging and conducting need-based training sessions(iii) Facilitating benefits of the schemes at Legal Service Clinic for widows(IV) Sensitizing the society about their issues. 
 EXPECTED OUTCOME:1. Socio-economic empowerment of widows by increasing their awareness and access to social, legal, and economic rights and opportunities.2. Improvement in societal condition of widows by sensitizing people about the need to treat widows with respect.

Navjyoti India Foundation is a not for profit organization in the country working since 1987, well known for its commitment to work with marginalized sections of the society and to bring them attain dignified quality life.We have been running operations in Delhi and been providing education to children since 2004 and working towards livelihood opportunities for the women of Sohna Block, Haryana since 1994.The ongoing pandemic posed a great challenge for our organization to function efficiently in these testing times, over the past months we have been trying to reach our beneficiaries through technology to sustain our activities and stand with them. 
 Menial tasks such as reaching our beneficiaries are becoming difficult. We have made rigorous changes in the way we operate and are trying to reach our beneficiaries through different routes.We are raising funds for the infrastructure of technology to bridge the digital divide, we will be using the funds raised through this campaign to procure laptops, tablets and smart phones which can be efficiently used by our communities.<ol><li>Students of our Remedial Education Program will be reached through online teaching and learning on Microsoft Teams, Whatsapp and other tools.</li><li>To keep the community engaged and informed, various events, competitions, and webinars will be organized regularly.</li></ol> 
 The impact of getting technology for our day to day operations will be wholesome to all our project sites.<ol><li>The 1500 students at our Remedial Education Program continue with their studies and do not drop out of our Remedial Education Program and the Government Schools.</li><li>The 1000 students of our Skill Upgradation Program continue to learn computer skills which will help them in their graduation and make them employable.</li><li>The 500 women at our Women Empowerment Program continue to learn new skills that will help in Livelihood Generation.</li></ol>

Digital education while has been one of the most adaptive model of remote learning during the pandemic, unfortunately not all children have access to it owing to their financial situations that devoid them of e-learning tools. Your donation of ₹12,000 shall go a long way in providing a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite 22.05cm (8.7 inch, 3GB RAM, ROM 32GB) to a deserving child from a group of 100 potential beneficiaries. Any alternate contribution shall go towards the same pool of funds. In these testing times, not just the people who are affected by Covid-19 even the normal way of life struggles to breath amidst the crisis and the challenges keeps popping up.Although 'Digital India' has made it possible for a lot of people to have smart gadgets in their hands but many of them still lack behind as they do not have access to these devices.Now that virtual meetings and classes are a new way of life, students with no access to smart devices struggles to keep up with the need of their education. 
 We are on a mission to bridge and fill this gap by providing access to the required devices for these underpriviledged students. Through this fundraiser, we are hoping to reach 100 students from the marginalised sections of the society in order to aid their educational needs. 
 Unavaibility of devices hambers their education and are causing overall reduction of opportunities for a better life as they are being cut-off entirely from the network.We want to help these children receive their fair share of education and with your help, we will be able to connect these students back to the education network.
