Floods in Bihar submerged many villages and farmlands entirely. Incessant rains destroyed poor people’s homes, and took a major toll on their livelihood resources (i.e. agricultural produce), valuables and livestock. People were just recovering from this disaster when a second wave of flooding in August hit and made the situation worse. In Bhagalpur, the water in Kharir is flowing 1.82 mtrs above the danger level. Estimates suggest that in Bhagalpur there has been a loss of more than Rs. 1000 crore due to floods which have affected a population of above 4 lakh, 4300 villages and 14 blocks have submerged in these floods. Bhagalpur is one the most severely affected districts of Bihar and has been kept in “A” category. 
 Nidan has chosen to respond in flood affected community of Bhagalpur for relief and rehabilitation work. In the initial stage, Nidan will begin with relief work. We would like to support and provide immediate relief to 500 families who are severely affected by providing them food packets, sanitation kits, tarpaulin and access to safe drinking water. The families will be selected on the basis of areas which have not received the attention of district authorities yet. The name of the family members will be listed down with support from the PRI, CBOs and community, the selected families will be provided with a coupon and upon presenting the coupon at collection centre, the relief packets will be handed over to the family. The food packet and sanitation kits will contain the following items: food packets containing rice, dal, oil, biscuit packets etc. We will also provide them sanitation kits consisting of bathing soap, tooth paste, tooth brush, comb, hand towel and sanitary pads. 
 Disasters are such moments of adversities, which cannot be averted but can be handled tactfully when fellow Indians support the sufferers. All that is required is your support for 500 flood victims. Help them recover from this adversity by providing them with hygienic food and sanitation kits.

Help the victims of Bihar flood begin a new life

The UN estimates that 2.1 million Indian children die every year before reaching the age of 5 – i.e. four every minute. Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) is a crucial cause of morbidity and mortality in children below five years of age in India. It is estimated that 8.33 per cent or 9,74,610 children in Bihar are severely malnourished and are at the highest risk of dying. 
 Nidan is running a Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) in Bihar. The project helps cure severe and acute malnourished (SAM) children in the age group of 6 months to 60 months. It's a facility-based care which provides nutritious food & medication to children & mothers. They are discharged only after complete recovery. Mothers are trained on feed preparation, basic healthcare, hygiene and nutrition. 
 With NRC, Nidan aims to fight the problem of malnutrition among the children in the age group of 6 months to 60 months in the state of Bihar, India. So far Nidan has saved 1669 SAM children. The long term objective is to save the SAM children from malnutrition and gradually decrease the infant mortality rate in the targeted areas of intervention. India’s economy runs on the backbone of working peoples. The informal sector workers constitute 93% of the workforce and the backbone of the Indian economy. Street vendors are an integral part of urban economies around the world, offering easy access to a wide range of goods and services in public spaces. They sell everything from fresh vegetables to prepared foods, from building materials to garments and crafts, from consumer electronics to auto repairs.﻿Street Vendors and Urban Poor Workers are facing many issues when the entire country is facing severe threats of the pandemic COVID-19. No work for them means no food at the end of the day. These people without economic and social support, and worrying about how to feed their families and earn an income, cannot, even if they wanted to, practice social distancing and responsible health practices. Informal sector workers in the urban who remain out of the relaxation in the lockdown and their lives and livelihoods suspended in limbo. Therefore, we need a comprehensive solution to help these people.   
 Street Vendors and Daily Wagers need immediate help for their protection from COVID -19. These people without economic and social support, and worrying about how to feed their families and earn an income, cannot, even if they wanted to, practice social distancing and responsible health practices.In such a situation, Nidan considers its social responsibility and willing to help. We strongly feel the needs as 1.      Capacity Building and training of staff and volunteers/ Community Leaders2.      Protection material for staff and volunteers3.      IEC materials –IEC material will be prepared and distributed in the areas. 4.      Sanitation kits – Sanitation kits with sanitizers, soaps, masks and gloves will be distributed to most excluded sections in the area. 5.      Providing Dry ration of to the most needed people. The Dry Ration includes Rice, Wheat flour, pulses, beans, oil, Salt, sugar, spices, tea etc under Rs 1250 per person. These kits will help them for 15 days. 6.      Coordinate with district administration and health department regarding the entitlements announced by the Govt and help communities access those entitlements and also keep exerting pressure so that the District Administration is alert and active.7.      Promotion of livelihood – Cash transfer to the neediest vendors to support their livelihood. 
 ·        Nidan will make each person of the target area aware about the various aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic –method of prevention and treatment·        It will demonstrate how easy it is to access the Govt. entitlements.·        It will make the District Administration alert and active.·        At least 7000 families will be saved from starvation, No suffering due to lack of ration etc·        Promotion of their livelihood so that they can sustain themselves.
