"My son used to kick me when he was in my womb. Why make an issue when he kicked me in my old age?" reasons a very forgiving Shakti Dasi. The widow travelled 2300 kms from Tripura to Vrindavan after her only son violently beat her with a burning plank of wood and broke her knee one evening. She had to leave behind the business she had built with her husband who had died a few years back. Shakti ended up on the streets of Brindavan begging for food and shelter. But when Winnie Singh of Maitri saw Shakti in a frail state in tattered clothes, she brought her to the shelter home where Shakti gets food, care and medicines. What more, with Maitri’s intervention, Shakti reconciled with her son - and daughter-in-law, and now travels home to Tripura twice a year to spend time with her grandchildren. But she is not leaving Maitri, as this has become her family.Not every elderly widow who comes to Vrindavan after being abandoned by her family gets as lucky as Shakti. Many of them often end up living a lonely life and begging to survive on the streets. Jharkhand being a backward state with 25t rank in terms of literacy having literacy rate of just 67.2%. Alone from Khunti district of Jharkhand approximately 32,000 children on the verge of being dropout from school education due pandemic. The very reason for this backwardness is, since times, the maximum parts of the state have been deprives from access to basic Education. The educationally deprived community has left with no other options of being sidelined from development.The pandemic has magnified the problem, as the large section of children from rural Jharkhand has not been able to access digital education. lack of books, eganging materials, access to safe and secure environment are some of key factors, widening the gap. For girls the situation is more worse, as they are the most vulnerable and are prone to get effected from the drift happening due to pandemic. Khunti is also on the list because of child trafficking and child labour cases, the current situation of closed schools, and completely shut down of educational activities has increased the fear of pushing the numbers. 
 Pratigya is working in the rural part of Khunti from more than a decade. Through our flagship program "Srijan Bachpan, Nurturing childhood" We have been running community learning centers, building safe and secure environment for children's to study and learn, developing community library, developing community's understanding of their responsibility towards education of their children. All these things we do by creating local leaders from the same or neighboring community. These are graduates who have been part of Pratigya's lie skills and leadership training. They understand the local problems and have ability to figure out the locally rooted global solutions.Community learning Centers, under Srijan Bachpan have full developed curriculum on Life Skills, Financial Education, Social Education, Arts and Sports. Children are being engaged at centers so that they remain the fold of education. The probability of the going back to school becomes high then compared to others. This will ensure prevention of their drop out.The organization also monitors their attendance and performance on regular basis. The very reason for this backwardness is that, since times, the maximum parts of the state have been overlooked because of which people here got diverted towards the wrong ways of demanding their rights like Naxalism and other criminal activities. The girls of this state have the highest rate of getting trafficked and indulging into prostitution, the reason being the poverty as well as lack of education among the community. Due to increasing cost of quality education, the children are compelled to get dropped out from the educational streams.Pratigya is committed to Quality School Education for children and runs an innovative programme - Education Voucher. Under this Programme, children from disadvantaged section get a Voucher with which they can study in a school of their choice. If the child or parent is unsatisfied, they can change the school too. Here money follows the child, not the school. Pratigya in presently supporting in two districts of Jharkhand – Ranchi (urban) and Khunti (rural) covering over 130 students from socially-economically backward families.Presently education of about 60 students supported by us so far have got on stake due to drop in resources from various donors during Corona Pandemic. We need to arrange for their school fees &amp; stationary, else they will dropout. COVID-19 pandemic has hit almost every segment of society. Parents of these children are mainly daily wage labourers and farm workers and have been economically crushed during pandemic. Hence not even capable to arrange the stationary and books for their children. 
 Pratigya will directly support these children with their school fees and stationary. This will ensure prevention of their drop out due to resource constrain. The organisation also monitors their school attendance and academic performance on regular basis. Subjugation of women and violence over them is tens and thousands of years old phenomenon in the history of human civilization. Though last half century saw a remarkable progress in the freedom and empowerment of women, but in India, freedom of women still seems a caged dream. Not to say that the condition of Indian women have not improved, in fact in terms of accessibility of women to education and work space has increased substantially, however, the violence unleashed on them by the counter population does not seem to be less. Women, especially when a female turned to a mother, her life changes drastically and she has to bear a lot more amount of responsibilities, which take her away from her freedom, liberty and actual life as an individual. She has to play the role of many characters at a single time without a moment thinking about her needs or likes. In spite of playing all these responsibilities perfectly, she has been still burdened with many social limitations too. The society never look her as a human being rather treat her as a household item. Aggressive dialogue, debates and discussion needs to be started in the society, both among men and women on this issue. 
 This is high time for civil society, government, educational institutions and all other stakeholders to sit and appraise the drowning condition for women in our surrounding. This situation also reminds of looking up to one great philosopher and doer of Indian history- Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi, who treated women equally as men, vehemently advocated that women must realize their full status and play their parts as equal to them. He was stark against the notion of subjugation of women. He used to openly say that woman have been suppressed under custom and law for which man was responsible and in the shaping of which she had no hand. The organisation is trying to establish the equality by 1. Sensitizing the communities to educate their girl child 2. Encouraging the girls to reach, enroll and complete their basic education. 3. Training them with life-skills so as to boost up their confidence and build their personality. 4. Giving them equal opportunity to lead different activities. 5. Sensitizing the adolescent and youths about their rights and also motivating them to put up their voice against wrong. 
 Objective of this Project To take the mothers out in the field where they can feel their freedom and respect as a human being. To help them realize that their dress up cannot be a barrier for their love towards sports. To help them feel their inner ability and strength to do something, to win something. To sensitize this society that sports have no gender, no age and no colour. To sensitize this society that women are not objects to be decorated in homes.The mother participants will feel a sense of freedom and respect when they move out of their houses and play for their respected teams.
