For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Pravara Medical Trust (PMT) – a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1972 under the Federal and State Legal Acts of India viz., Societies Registration Act 1860 and Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. The trust is located in Loni - a remote rural, socio-economically backward and drought prone village of Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, India. The organization was promoted by local peasants as a community empowerment initiative against the socially oppressive forces as part of an “Integrated Participatory Rural Development Model (widely known as Pravara Model / Loni PURA Model” conceived in 1950 with the establishment of Asia’s first viable Cooperative Sugar Processing Unit, in this part of the country. PMT has developed a “Comprehensive Rural &amp; Tribal Healthcare Model” by establishing state-of-art preventive, curative, rehabilitative medical and healthcare hospital &amp; educational complex to serve about 2.5 million rural and tribal people living in seven administrative blocks of Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, India. The mission of the trust is ‘serve the rural poor’ and the vision of the trust is to “improve the productivity of the rural people through increased quality of life by making health systems more effective &amp; responsive to the needs of the people”. The following are the broad activities of the Trust      1.   Provision of Tertiary level Medical and Healthcare Services <ul><li>Running a 1250 bedded multi &amp; super specialty charitable medical hospital (namely Pravara Rural Hospital since 1972). The hospital provides Rs. 250 million (3.35 million USD) charity every year towards free treatment and food for poor patients. All maternal, pediatric and geriatric patients are treated free and others are at highly subsidized user charges. The COVID – 19 pandemic is far more than just a pandemic infectious disease. It’s affecting the health, healthcare, societies, economies, etc… at their core. While the impact of the pandemic from each country and regions within has varied but the ember can be carried a long way before it sparks another blaze leaving with the reality of complete normality a long way off. As on July 2020, India is ranking third with active cases of COVID – 19 in the world. Maharashtra; hotspot accounting to nearly one – third of the total cases in India as well as 40% of all deaths with a fatality rate of 4.3%, which though lower than global average but significantly higher than other states. In the lockdown phase hundreds of tribal and rural workers – migrant and non–migrant engaged in various operations like agricultural, agro-industrial, infrastructure, construction etc… have lost the bare sustenance of their livelihood i.e. work and are thus without food alike in the rural and tribal area along with children losing the mid–day meals from school. In Unlock 2 under guidance of Union Ministry of Home Affaire (MHA) mobility have increase with a subsequent risk of surge in cases, especially rural areas.  
 A.   Dedicated COVID – 19 Isolation Hospital &amp; ICUs: As the number of COVID – 19 patients are increasing in the catchment area of Pravara Medical Trust's Charitable 1275 bedded multi-specialty non-covid hospital, the Trust aims to establish a 100 bedded dedicated COVID 19 Isolation Ward/Hospital, with its own funds and charity received from other likeminded organizations and individuals. This Covid-19 hospital is equipped with 100 beds (30 Quarantine and 50 Treatment Beds, 20 ICU beds). Treatment is provided free of cost. As many as 150 suspected cases were quarantined and 55 COVID positive cases were treated in this hospital till July 7, 2020. B.   Distribution of Dry Ration “Food Kit” to migrant and other vulnerable tribal families: In COVID – 19 lockdown, hundreds of migrant tribal workers have lost their livelihoodand returned to their native villages. This precarious situation is making vulnerable population go hungry without food. Pravara Medical Trust has designed a dry ration "Food Kit" containing -10 Kgs Rice/Wheat, 2 Kgs of Pulses, 1 Kg Sugar, Salt, Spices and 1 Liter of Cooking Oil&amp;Soap) and started distribution in needy 100 tribal villages to meet 15 days of food requirement since April 2020. Till June 2020, over 1100 tribal families were given this Food Kit. We are planning to continue this activity till August 2020 serving another 1000 needy families. 
 <ul><li> Supplementing the governmental efforts of “test-tack-treat” COVID 19 cases: Hospitals and other healthcare facilities run by NGOs play a critical supplementary role in national &amp; state governmental efforts and local responses to emergencies, especially communicable disease epidemics. Through a dedicated COVID – 19 Isolation Hospital and ICUs, besides running its own Non-covid hospital services, we could mount a coordinated, systemic response to a rapidly evolving, and potentially complex epidemic enforcing upon the Government of India strategy of “test – track – treat” thus implementing key strategies for early detection, effective contact tracing, isolation, treating those in need especially those in the rural &amp; tribal parts of Ahmednagar District where the cases are increasing as the days pass by.</li><li> Test 10000 suspected cases, Quarantine 5000 cases, Treat 2500 positive cases with normal conditions, and save 250 critical COVID 19 Positive Patients with co-morbid conditions </li><li>Providing Food and Nutrition Security to 2000 most needy poor tribal families: Distribution of dry ration – “Food – Kit” is a much needed, timely and appropriate help for the vulnerable poorest of the poor tribal families and their women and children whose health and nutrition conductions are precarious, to save them from hunger and nutrition deaths.</li></ul>
