Ranjita Pawar witnessed violence at the age of five. From the Denotified Nomadic Tribal community (DNT) in rural Maharashtra, Ranjita grew up watching horrific caste and gender-based violence all through her life. Fierce Ranjita never gave up: she completed her Diploma in education and became the first teacher in her community. In 2008, she mobilized members of her community to start Samarthya, a non-profit. Over the past 14 years, Ranjita and her team have worked extensively in the areas of education, casteism and gender-based violence in 38 villages and 7 slums in Maharashtra, India.
