And the worst affected are the children who grow up in red-light areas and are subjected to constant abuse and violence. “The sight of a 12-year-old girl being gang-raped by a group of men near a house l haunts me to this date. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Knowledge Empowers and Happiness Heals...Our vision and belief is driven by the high success rate of childhood cancer treatment (nearly 78% as per the pediatric oncology cohort). Founded in Bangalore in 2009 by Sandhya Sharad, Samiksha Foundation (SF) provides non-medical support to children with cancer, focusing on Integrated Education of the child during treatment at oncology hospital wards.In an effort to “leave no child behind”, Samiksha’s mission is to enhance formal education of children with cancer, and now expanding the scope of that mission to include other life limiting conditions. SF has done this using a hybrid of hands on and technology enabled remote support. Our focus has been helping the children to return to the right grade in their school post-cancer recovery.Samiksha has awarded 306 scholarships, till January 2022, to support aspiring young cancer survivors with their higher studies.SF has impacted over 8590 children (direct beneficiaries), across 5 Learning Centres from June 2012 until May 2022.
