I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. For 11-year-old Ravi (name changed) a normal day would start before the sun rose and involved carrying heavy loads up a narrow staircase, in a ramshackle building filled with clouds of toxic smoke. And work rarely ended before nine or ten at night. “The fumes in the stone-polishing factory were such that I would choke and feel suffocated all day long. There was a time when I fell from the first floor and had I not caught onto the railing, I am not sure what would have happened. Rekha Wankhede is a four-year old girl from a small village in Akola district, Maharashtra.

Her father was a policeman and destructively addicted to alcohol. Often he would return home from his job and beat her mother over the smallest of matters. One horrible day, he beat her mother to death right in front of Rekha. Since her relatives were as poor as them, the state government asked Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal (SSM) to take charge of her care.

SSM enrolled her into our school and raised her with expert carers. What's more, an SSM supporter championed Rekha and paid for her entire education. Despite going to court every month to testify against her father, eventually her situation improved; as she showed interest in academics while making new friends.

Today, Rekha has completed class 12 and is studying a vocational course in nursing at Nanded, Maharashtra. She is no longer introvert and shy but a bright and enthusiastic student.

Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal (SSM) runs a project to encourage participation in sports among rural children studying at our schools. Right from training coaches to buying sports kits to training, everything is provided for these talented children. Many of them take part in national level competitions and showcase their talents in sports like marathon running, sprinting, the long jump, and relays.

Recently, SSM received the Real Heroes CNN IBN Award for its outstanding contribution to sports through this project. Most of the children involved are either orphans or come from very poor backgrounds but we are privileged to win an award for working with such amazing children.

The future looks just as positive as we plan to train our young sporting stars to participate and make an impact in national and Asian games.

Education is a liberating step towards a persons empowerment. But for children from disadvantaged rural communities in Sagroli, Maharashtra, education is a privilege which is reserved for very few.These children not only need schools and infrastructural facilities but they also need financial assistance to afford them. Most either never attend school or drop out at an early age because there are no resources or peer counselling. 
 Our organisation runs a residential school where children from disadvantaged backgrounds receive free education, hostel facilities, meals, and educational supplies. Workshops and extra-curricular activities are also organised from time to time to promote personality development.Once they complete their education, they are counselled to make intelligent career choices and are supported financially to complete their higher studies. The process we follow is such that any child who is brought to us is supported not just to complete school but also to become self-reliant. 
 At present, almost 4,000 rural children study and live at our residential school. Most students who have completed their education with us previously are now placed in well-meaning jobs. Every donation of Rs. 3,000 takes care of all the expenses for one child at our school for a year.

Bestow a year of education upon a poor child

Our organisation runs schools for underprivileged children living in rural regions of Sagroli, Maharashtra. Here, we not only sponsor their education but provide educational supplies, counselling sessions, and encourage extra-curricular activities to promote personality development.A number of our students perform well in various sports like basketball, long jump, and kabaddi. This programme encourages talent and provides proper training so pupils can perform and excel at national level competitions. 
 In our schools we run a programme called Sagroli Sunrise where we identify students who have performed exceptionally well in various competitions and help them to participate on a national level.All donations towards this project will be used to hire professional coaches, buy sports kits and uniforms, and take care of students’ nutritional requirements while preparing for competitions. 
 Our programme will support 30 talented children from disadvantaged backgrounds to excel in their choice of sports with proper training and support.Every donation of Rs. 3,000 will sponsor the professional training and other requirements for one student.

Sponsor sports training for talented rural children

Greetings! Most of the girl students in our region belongs to farming community, affected by natural calamities, suicide committed farmer families. They otherwise would have not afford to continue their school education. Many girls do not have schools after 7th Std in their respective villages. They cannot afford hostel fees of residential schools. In addition, there is no public transportation facility from their respective villages to our school on regular basis. In this situation, they are forced to sacrifice their school education and childhood and stay back at home taking care of their siblings. Later on, within a couple of year, they get married in early age. Education has been the main pivot of Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal www.ssmandal.net since it's inception, to equip the students with knowledge especially girl students who are orphan and poverty stricken. We run Anand Balgram hostel providing free of cost education since 1975. At present, there are 89 girls studying from 5th to 12th Std.   
 Anand Balgram has been renovated with support of General Insurance Corporation Ltd, Mumbai in 2017. However, the space available to accommodate the 89 girls is inadequate as there are no cots. We wish to provide bunk beds for these girls. 
 If the girls are provided with Bunk Beds, it will solve the problem with enough ventilation and light. The Bunk Bed allows more space for free movement also.

Anand Balgram Orphanage

In the rural areas, where girls are still considered as a burden when the pandemic devastated families, it left innocent souls bereft of any support. This exposes a girl child to social evils like early marriages, labour and more. To safeguard 40 such children, your contribution of ₹3,400 can ensure one month of residential as well as education support to a girl child in need.During the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, in rural areas many families lost their bread earners. This has put these families in a difficult situation. Even today, a girl child is considered a burden to the family and given the current scenario, this is not a favourable situation for them.Currently, we have Identified 40 such children. 
 Hence we have decided to provide such children with a residential facility and education, for which all the costs would be borne by us. 
 To provide the children with quality education so that they can excel in their life.
