Help Disabled Children with Shelter & Care

For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Dr. Bhagat prioritizes the health of the seniors and ensures that they receive three balanced meals a day based on their precise health requirements. Need for the fundraiserThe humanitarian mission of SHEOWS is making an impact in the area, as more and more people are being rescued and brought to Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. To meet the financial costs of running the home, SHEOWS needs support to continue providing the residents with all the facilities that they need. Help Dr. Bhagat care for 500+ elderly parents rescued from abuse and homelessness

In the dark and dingy alleys of red light areas, injustice, pain and suffering run rampant. And the worst affected are the children who grow up in red-light areas and are subjected to constant abuse and violence. “The sight of a 12-year-old girl being gang-raped by a group of men near a house l haunts me to this date. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. He has further supported over 20,000 children with a better life.Sadly, Of the 250 the children rescued from abuse and exploitation, around 70 of them are HIV positive. I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. Gradually more and more mothers started coming to me and asked me to take their children away, even if it was just for a couple of hours,” he further adds.The work that Girish started in his youth gradually grew to become a movement, with many more joining his cause. His NGO Snehalaya to date has transformed the lives of millions. Girish’s work is crucial for the survival and safety of vulnerable children of sex workers. Sarthak Educational Trust was started in the year 2008.In 2004, while practising as a dentist, Dr. Jitender Aggrawal, the Founder and CEO of Sarthak started losing his vision due to Macular Degeneration of Retina, a non-treatable concern. During this period, he realised the agony which a PwD goes through due to constraints such as non-inclusive environment and limited access to resources and opportunities. With God's grace and support from various relevant persons, he first got himself trained in screen readers and other softwares to manage and execute his daily activities through computers, and gradually started with the skilling and employment of visually impaired candidates in Delhi.Thus, he envisioned a platform where this dependency can be cured. With this thought, In 2008 Dr. Aggrawal started with one centre in Delhi and gradually expanded to 19 centers across the nation. Through its presence in Delhi(4), Chandigarh, Gurugram, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Ambala, Bhopal, Kolkata, Ghaziabad, Chennai, Vishakapatnam and Faridabad with the support of National Skill Development Corporation, Tech Mahindra Foundation, Capgemini India Private Limited, Mahindra Finance and various other agencies.Through its early intervention and inclusive education initiative, Sarthak has rehabilitated 1500+ and 425+ children with disability respectively. Sarthak Skill Development Centres have successfully trained 20000 PwD candidates in the sectors of tourism and hospitality, Organized retail, and IT-ITes. Furthermore, 100+ job fairs have been organized in 21 states to provide employment opportunities to those PwDs who are already skilled. Through job fairs and skill centres, 18000 PwDs have been provided employment.

In India, 20.42 lakhs children in the age group of 0 to 6 years have some form of disability owing to complications at birth, environmental issues or medical conditions. Through the Early Intervention Centres, Sarthak Educational Trust provides its services to children with Autism, Intellectual disability, Learning Disability, Hearing Impairment, Vision impairment Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and others. However, the lockdown has taken a toll on these interventions and the progression graph for many children has been drastically affected due to the same. Your donation of ₹800 could help a child with disability with a customised therapy session and a contribution of ₹15,000 would ensure medical rehabilitation of a child. In India, the population of persons with disability is around 26.8 million, constituting 2.21% of India’s total population (Census 2011). However, World Bank data proposes the number between 40 to 80 million. But despite the discrepancy between the numbers it is very clear that PwDs constitute a significant part of Indian Population. Further, the statistics state that approximately 20.42 lakhs children between the age groups of 0 to 6 years have some or other forms of disability owing to complications at birth, environmental issues or medical conditions. And, as a matter of fact spreading awareness, early identification, and early intervention support carries the potential to avoid and or limit the extent of disability in these children.The Early Intervention Centre (EIC) is for children with developmental delays.The earlier we start working with children, the better they do. At EIC we work with children from birth to the age of six. We encourage their overall development, enhance their abilities to the full and endeavor to help them circumvent their disability. We build on the strengths of the child and train parents on early intervention strategies so that they are empowered to deal with their child’s issues.  
 With the intent to meet this need of beneficiaries Sarthak started its Early Intervention Centre in 2014 in Delhi and started with awareness drives for communities, Parents, Aanganbadi Workers, and Medical Practitioners. Sooner visits to neo natal intensive care units was also initiated to proceed with early identification of children vulnerable to developmental delays.And, finally with the aid of multi-disciplinary team of Psychologists, Therapist, Counselors and external supports, Early Intervention Centre was started, where all the services were provided under a single roof and free of charge. Sarthak provides its services to children with Autism, Intellectual disability, Learning Disability, Hearing Impairment, Vision impairment Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and others.With the onset of COVID 19, the physical therapies have been effected as a result the progression graph of a child is declined. To bridge this gap, Sarthak have started providing online therapies with the support of caregivers/parents. 
 200 Children with Special Needs shall be medically rehabilitated during the year. Moreover, the parents and other stakeholders including hospitals, NGOs etc. shall be sensitized and made aware about the disability cause. These centers will also form our base for prospective enrolment of children with disability.

Although the concept and understanding of disability has evolved over the years, it still holds the society with its claws. The persons with disability encounter many barriers during their lifetime be it in the initial years of accepting their mind and body or the emotional challenges they face in later years of life. According to census 2011, of the approximately 70 million people with disabilities in India, only about 0.1 million have succeeded in getting employment in the industries. 
 We at Sarthak, need your support to effectively train the persons with disability. Your support will help us accomplish our goal of empowering 1,00,000 the people with disability, thus making the society of human kind stronger and more inclusive. 
 At Sarthak, we aim to bring about a revolution in terms of how the world looks at the concept of equality and inclusivity. We aim to aid those that have been deprived due to one or other disabilities and help them live a life of dignity and grace by providing them a sustainable livelihood. Empower Persons with disabilities

In India, persons with disabilities have poorer health conditions, lower education achievements, less economic and higher rates of poverty than people without disabilities as per The World Report on Disabilities by World Health Organization. This is partly because persons with disabilities experience barriers in accessing services that many of us have long taken for granted, including health, education, and employment.With the rise of the global threat of COVID 19, the situation even gets worse as their physical condition and medical comorbidity put them at higher risk of developing the severe complications of COVID- 19. Further, distancing is not an option for many as they rely on others including personal support workers and caregivers to support their needs including movement, bathing, feeding.Due to COVID-19 restriction, many people with disabilities who operated small businesses, informal livelihood ventures (home cell phone repair or machine repair shops, selling goods) or employed in MNCs were unable to work due to inaccessibility, technological barriers and economic recession. As a result, there is a significant loss of income affecting the family income of the household further resulting in the composite GDP of the nation. 
 <ul><li>Imparting free of cost online vocational skill-building training to Persons with Disabilities.</li><li>Providing immediate Assistance/Placement support to Persons with Disabilities who lost jobs.</li><li>Provide direct education to people with disabilities and their families on how to protect themselves against COVID-19 through online sessions.</li><li>Connect people with disabilities with available community resources which are difficult to access during this period of lockdown including pharmacies, medical clinics and assistive equipment providers.</li><li>Counselling of Persons with Disabilities and families.</li></ul> 
 More and more, job roles are requiring formal training qualifications either because of legislative requirements or to meet the requirements of specific employers. Developing skills through training provides significant benefits including increased employment opportunities and personal growth. Sarthak would be bringing the change in the lives of PwDs, who shall then be competent and skilled to perform the job and more skilled people will help in growing the GDP of the nation. Further, providing counselling and accessible information on COVID would help the community of people with disability far and wide. With the program, we plan to reach out to 1000 beneficiaries.

Empower people with disability to combat the devastating effect of COVID 19 on their livelihood

Sarthak aims to empower persons with disability, enabling them to live their life with dignity and respect.To achieve this vision of empowerment of persons with disability, Team Sarthak is geared to establish Sarthak Adarsh Kendras (Skill Building and Early Intervention Centers) across the nation.Sarthak is aimed towards carving an equal stature for persons with disability by providing them a platform wherein they have equal access to opportunities and resources. 
 1. Early Intervention Center : Antakshep Kendra Early prevention, identification and intervention are the three facets of Sarthak Antakshep Kendra. It involves identification of problem areas at the earliest and sensitisation of gynaecologists, paediatricians and health workers to control disability proneness for the babies at risk. Early intervention works for providing therapeutic aid to the children facing developmental delays.2.Inclusive Education : Sarthak, with the Government support works for enabling an environment for learning by sensitizing the teachers and parents to provide medical and social support to children with disability. The activities are focused on two major aspects of checking the drop-outs and inclusion of students in the school education.Various workshops for various stakeholders such as teachers, special educators, school principals, school management committees and parents of children with disability are also organized with the intent to build sensitivity for differently abled children.3.Skill Development : Sarthak Kaushal Vikas Kendra This programs provides youth with disabilities with a wide range of unique skill building experiences including leadership, social, communication, computers, and basic life skills. The 3 months training program is given in 3 broad verticals: IT - ITES, tourism and hospitality and organised retail to the youth in the age group of 18-30 years.4.Sustainable Employment : Sarthak adapts a threefold strategy to facilitate sustainable employment of differently-abled individuals. It involves job mapping, in-house placement openings, and job fair for people with disability.5.Advocacy Activity : Advocacy is the lynchpin of Sarthak efforts. As it sensitizes the corporate, candidates, and society that being differently-abled is just a challenge, and it does not always affect the capability of an individual.6. NGO Capacity Building Program : At Sarthak, we are not only restricted to catering to the needs of persons with disability directly, but also equipping existing change makers with better capacity and strength.7. Accessible Event Management Support : In its endeavour to create an inclusive world irrespective of any disability, Sarthak has recently entered into providing accessible event management support. The first such support was provided to Microsoft in organising their first ever accessibility summit in Hyderabad, on May 30, 2017.The support aims at creating a barrier free environment, wherein, every nook and corner is considerate of accessibility requirements of persons with disability. 
 Sarthak Educational Trust is working since 2008 and in the last 10 years has successfully reached out to 1% (2.5 Lakh) of the disabled populace in India.  And, have successfully rehabilitated 825+ and 425+ children through Early Intervention and Inclusive Education centers respectively. Also, 9500, and 12,500 youth with disability have been provided vocational skills and employment support in the sectors of IT, BPO, Retail, Hospitality, Healthcare, E-Commerce, and Manufacturing. Furthermore, 100+ job fairs have been organized in 21 states to provide employment opportunities to those PwD candidates who are already skilled.
