“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. “I used to be sexually abused repeatedly, and when I screamed in pain, they hit and threatened me with more violence,” says Priya (name changed), a rescued child sex worker. Priya was abducted by traffickers and sold into a red-light area house before she was rescued by Guria led by Manju. For over two decades, Manju has been rescuing young girls forced into prostitution across the country. She has been shaken to the core seeing some of the most horrifying crimes that young girls have to undergo. “You can’t imagine the state of girls forced into sex work. The girls are given electric shocks and burnt with cigarette butts just to get kicks out of it. And if they get pregnant, the "owners" kick them repeatedly in the womb so that the child inside dies…If you want to see hell, it is here on this planet where young girls are sexually abused,” says Manju.Manju needs your help to rescue more young girls from forced prostitution and reunite them with their families. Donate now.Guria’s work over the yearsBased out of Varanasi, inarguably the holiest place in India, Manju and her organisation Guria, fights the sexual exploitation of girls, especially minors, by taking on the traffickers head-on, and rescuing and rehabilitating them.Started in 1993, Guria has rescued over 5500 persons from slavery, sex trafficking, and child prostitution so far. It has also been instrumental in shutting down hundreds of places that housed trafficked girls and putting scores of traffickers out of business and in jail.For instance, in 2005, a Guria-led rescue operation in Varanasi's red-light area led to the freeing of 49 women and girls, including minors. Many of them were kept against their will. Some of the traffickers were also arrested and tried. Since then, Guria has rescued thousands of young girls.Manju and her husband, Ajeet Singh began rescuing girls from Varanasi’s red-light areas and then working to stop the sex-trafficking of young girls within Uttar Pradesh and outside. The organisation’s aim is to eliminate the sex trafficking of women, especially minor girls, end second-generation prostitution and child prostitution, and rehabilitate women and girls who are rescued from the trade. Manju has faced violent backlash from the traffickers and other vested interests, but it has not deterred her from carrying on rescuing young girls from trafficking. Rescue and rehabilitationBesides rescuing girls trafficked for sex, mostly from low-income families, from across the country, Guria fights on their behalf in courts and also provides education, food, vocational training, and other facilities until they are united with their families. But because of a lack of funds, Guria is finding it difficult to rescue more girls and also take care of them once they are away from the clutches of the traffickers. Take the case of Sameena (name changed), who was abducted from Uttar Pradesh all the way to Telangana. Guria took it upon itself to rescue the girl with the help of its own work and also the authorities. After months of rehabilitation, Sameena went back to her family and even completed her education. The Hindu Women's Welfare Society runs Shraddhanand Mahilashram at Matunga, Mumbai in India. The institution has forged bonds between the girls of our ashram and society at large in the form of adoptions, marriage, etc.At the Special Care Centre, children with fragile health are cared for by a staff, comprising of doctors and nurses who see them through their first few years, during and after which most of them are put up for adoption. For those who turn out to be physically and /or mentally handicapped, the Ashram provides shelter and loving care but also trains them through Physiotherapy, speech therapy.The girls lives under the care of House Mother (Grihmata) in houses having separate dormitories. There is regular routine of school, college, vocational training, etc to ensure that girls are well-equipped today to take on responsible roles in society tomorrow. Embroidery, stitching, cooking and various handicrafts are taught to inculcate virtues of self -respect and self- reliance.In the Mahila section women between 20 and 60 years of age are provided with shelter and training in various skills to encourage economic self reliance through gainful employment. Many of them are even married through the Ashram. At Vasai, elderly women who have no one to look after them are taken care of. They are provided with nutritious food and regular medical check-up. At Kurla, the B. J. Mulji Working Women Hostel is a safe shelter for immigrant working women belonging to the lower income group. At Matunga, M.P.V.V. Hostel for those girls parents residing at native place and girls higher education in Mumbai.Future Plans: Currently we have redeveloping Working Women's Hostel at Kurla and hostel for students in the adjoining building at Matunga M.P.V.V. premises.

We are starting the construction of extension of our working women hostel. We have an existing Working Women's Hostel where 100 hostelers stay. Provision for about 70 hostelers shall be made in the new building. 
 The new hostel building will be of 19000 sq. ft., of which 14,000 sq. ft. shall be for hostel, approximately 5,000 sq. ft. will be leased commercially preferable to bank. This shall provide sustenance to organisation.Hostel location is about 2 km from Bandra Kurla Complex, the new commercial hub in Mumbai. Our aim is to raise funds for the same. We have started spending from our reserve funds and plan to raise at least 2 crores for the year 2019-20 and 2020-21 each. These funds can come through private donors/ trusts and CSR initiatives and by corporate in Mumbai and around.So far we have raised Rs. 2,11,000/- through private donations. The Saraswat Bank has committed Rs. 7,00,000/- for sponsoring a room. We approached LIC Housing Finance, Mondlez, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation. Soon we are sending our proposal to ONGC for CSR funding . 
 Mumbai being a safe and secure place. Many ladies come to Mumbai for living and equally high numbers come for students. We already providing a safe dwelling place with healthy breakfast and dinner, so this facility we can extend. We are constructing 6 dormitories where 25 to 30 lower income group working women's and earn while you learn facility. We will provide to economically weak section of women's / students folk.Ashram kanya's who leave our orphanage at Matunga, in their early 20's with meager income shall certainly be benefited by the above facility.
