Cattle, bred for profit and abandoned after they stop producing milk, are often found malnourished, injured or sick on city streets. Many face bitter winters, starvation and death in road accidents - a sad fate for cows in a country where they are revered by lakhs of people. To save cows from such a sad end, Swami Ishwar Das started Shree Krishnayan Desi Gaushala, currently home to 18,000+ abandoned cows. But with the rising costs of fodder and medicines, he is struggling to provide the quality of care such mistreated animals deserve. “It was in 2010 when I witnessed abandoned cows from the streets in Uttarakhand being transported in a truck. The cows were administered anesthesia and stacked one above the other like lifeless goods. When me and a few of my acquaintances brought the cows off the truck, two of them died before my eyes and that sight shook me to the core. Strays have to scavenge for food in Dustbins/Thrash Cans/Be on the mercy of humans to provide them Food. Strays can become unruly and go to lengths to eat food sometimes even leading to danger for both humans and animals. If animals remain unfed for long periods they can get aggressive towards humans and this may lead to injury for either animals or humans. 
 We are going to continue regularly feeding drives for strays in Mulund to provide them healthy and nutritious food. We monitor places where there is a lot of human-animal conflicts and try to resolve the issues by carrying out feeding drives. Stray Animals require the most help during rains as the food gets contaminated easily and they often also fall sick due to this. 
 We wish to ensure no animals be it dog/cat go to sleep on an empty stomach. We wish to reduce human-animal conflict by making sure the strays are well fed and healthy. Animals become less aggressive and they become more friendly. There are fewer of dog bite cases and thereby lesser animal cruelty cases.
