The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, no healthcare, no education, there was absolutely nothing”, says Bipin Dhane founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Owing to his childhood experiences Bipin was always inclined towards helping the less fortunate, and he believed in the transformative power of education. It was in 2016 that Bipin left his lucrative career abroad and moved to Majuli, to provide the children from this inaccessible river island education they were deprived of.“Whatever little money I had saved, I gave it to my parents. I had no money to start the school. It was then that villagers came together to build bamboo huts. Each family donated bamboo, wood, and whatever little they could. More than 60% of the urban population lives in slums, the most ignored section of society. They lack basic human facilities and are not earning enough to meet their end needs. Most of the people/families living in slums are dependent on a daily wage which means if for one day they have no work their income for that day becomes zero. They do not earn enough to send their kids to schools and are not treated equally by mainstream society. 
 In order to construct and develop smart cities it becomes very necessary to develop smart slums. Dream Slum project is about uplifting the people of slums by providing them with basic education about government schemes and how they can avail of them. Constructing small education centres within the slum boundaries so that children of slums can also be introduced to education and later getting them admitted to the mainstream education system. We are also trying to gift them proper toilets/washrooms for healthy living. providing them jobs in our Dream School centres and getting them connected to the people who are looking for helpers. Creating opportunities so that they can start their small-scale businesses as well. 
 The idea is to replicate the same model across the nation. We have been successful in doing so in 17 slums in different cities. In the last 2 years, the same 2000+ kids have enrolled with our Dream School project and 70% of them attend mainstream education systems i.e nearby government/private schools. In the slums where we work we ensure to provide them with a clean living environment, proper living conditions with facilities like the construction of toilets, support with menstrual health, healthy diet and education around government schemes.
