Seeing the rampant distress among the elderly, a team of selfless heroes from our NGO partner Mitti Cafe, though disabled themselves, have taken up the responsibility of providing cooked meals and dry rations to over 5,000 elderly in urgent need of support. Setting aside their own struggles, Mitti Cafe’s team, led by Ayesha Alam has been relentlessly fighting to free elderly from hunger and malnutrition through its Karuna Meals initiative. “A blind child is seen as a curse or as a burden to the family. These children are left on the street. I have picked up children from roadsides myself. I also lost my eyesight as a child but today I am a senior officer in a public sector company. What would I have done, had I not been taken care of?” asks Veena Mehta Verma who was once a beneficiary of National Association for the Blind, Delhi (NAB) and now works with the NGO to protect and care for blind children like herself.Today, hundreds of blind children supported by NAB, Delhi have found something that they never had before–hope for a better tomorrow. Kshitij has been a part of VISHWAS since the beginning of his school journey. With guidance from Vishwas, he underwent some corrective surgeries for gait, due to cerebral palsy. He then went on to complete grade X and XII through NIOS. He got training in computers at our skill training.Ishank, with mild intellectual disability trained in computers and hospitality. This soft spoken, very well-mannered young boy has been very keen to become self-reliant by taking up a job.Rohtash has locomotor disability due to polio. He has been working with us since 2015 in the tailoring unit. In 2023 when this unit closed, he tried his hand at having his own tailoring unit. But with no regular supply of work, it became difficult for him to manage a family of 5.This year we have a new partner in Mitti Café (a café managed by PwDs). Through a rigorous screening and training process, all the three of them got employed in it. They are extremely happy with this new found self-reliance and financial independence. Regular training in sports is yielding results1. Lovlesh won Bronze Medal in Special Olympics, Berlin in Tennis (2023)2. Yashpal has been selected for training in Ice skating for Special Olympics World Winter games to be held in Italy in 20253. Yashpal and Gautam won Gold medal for Haryana in Volleyball, held by Special Olympics Bharat in Gujarat4. Lovelesh won 2 Gold and 1 Silver medal in Power lifting National Championship by Special Olympic Bharat held at Kanpur 5.Khushi &amp; Neeru won 1st place in 100m race in SOB Athletics, Haryana
